@crystallmess is a Parisian producer, DJ and the host of the Unleashed show on NTS. Her beat-driven experimental selection features the freshest naughty findings from the near and far underground dancefloors and lots of her own tasty mashups. 

Crystallmess’s work has been presented at Lafayette Anticipations in Paris, Geneva Biennale, Ars Electronica in Linz, La Gaité Lyrique in Paris, Espace Arlaud in Lausanne. Mere Noises was her first self-release, followed by a SPLIT 12" EP with @to-xe on @pan_hq. Currently she’s working on a new EP and collaborating with other artists through compilations, scores for films and fashion shows.

Crystallmess’s borshch mix is built around a push and pull movement, similar to the one we are facing now with the multiple lockdowns. “One day, your area is open, one day it's not. When it opens, it's hectic like a jungle beat, when it closes back it sounds nebulous and evanescent, slower.” The mix includes some of her edits as well as unreleased by Aho Ssan and ethereal ambient reworks by Iceboy Violet.

Next up in our Origins Tapes series is Zambian Artist Wamya Tembo, who rocketed onto the electronic scene with his musical moniker 'SHE Spells Doom' in 2014 and has been a mainstay ever since. 

SHE Spells Doom's sound holds a plethora of influence: everything from Congolese Rhumba and early 00s Rap to strong House and Techno influences can be heard in their sound. They create music that is often interlaced with a deep love of 80s sci-fi and horror movies, which brings a deeper and darker edge to both their club and experimental cuts. 

SHE Spells Doom's release's span worldwide via labels such as NEVER DECAY, Monstart, and NY’s Créme Records: His electric sets and recorded mixes will have you breaking a sweat from either dancing beginning to the end or getting chills from his electrifying sound design.

With all that being said, we are excited to have SHE Spells Doom join us for Tapes #16 and we firmly believe that 2021 is going to be his best yet..

Ivy Lab, also known as Sabre and Stray, willfully break down genre boundaries with the ‘Demon Dust’ EP. It is born from a love of UK bass but plays with tempo, collides hip-hop with jungle, LA humidity with London grit, and so much more. Following releases on the likes of Dirtybird and their own TWTW London imprint, they now land on the Australian Future Classic label, with the first single ‘Backshifting’ dropping in November and the entire EP following suit in December.

We’re still always gonna carry our baggage as bass heads with a love of hip-hop with us, but the genre pool where we can explore those themes is deeper than ever, and we have so much to say in that conversation” - Ivy Lab

Successfully test-driven by dBridge and Ehua at Draaimolen, opener 'Backshifting' is a joyous blend of dusty breakbeats and pitched-up vocal hooks that make the heart flutter. The sound design is next level as the fractured loops and bursts of synth all soar and bring the good times. 'Fool' is a deeper excursion with gentle amen breaks worked into a sinewy house groove that bubbles and souls with mystic hooks and warm chords. The title track ‘Demon Dust’ highlights another angle, blending screwy acid with beautiful piano chords, bursts of breaks, gospel chorals and slamming hits. US scene mainstay Nikki Nair then remixes ‘Backshifting’ with his signature blend of percussive club music, closing out a hugely original EP that combines many different moods and genres, all to energising and emotional effect.
