Menetyksen todellisen suuruuden tunnistaa siitä millaisia hyökyaaltoja se lähettää ympärilleen. Kun katsoi tänä aamuna FB-feediä, näki että Pokla on poikkeuksellisella tavalla koskettanut monen elämää. 

Niin minunkin. Tämä kappale tuli ulos spontaanina reaktiona, ja jaan sen Spunarien luvalla meidän sivuillamme. Me emme koskaan ehtineet Tavastialla soittaa Poklan valvovan katseen alla, mutta kun vihdoin esiinnymme Semissä ensi kuun alussa pitää tämä kyllä vetää encorena.

“This is a song about a little shit / who never thought that's what he'd be...”

Well, no, actually. It's a song about sinking horizons, failed attempts, lost opportunities. “Books you could have read / things you could have said”. You know the score.

Our year 2012 was colored by loss. Our dear friend Kustaa died in April. He was central to us as a band in so many ways: our first gig proper was at a benefit organized in his honour after he underwent the first in a series of lung transplants. An accomplished cartoonist and visual artist, he did the artwork for our debut EP and ensuing merchandise. There was talk of him starting work on artwork for our first album. I'd already burnt him a CD of demos. Sadly, fate intervened.

Therefore it seems appropriate for us to use one of his images for the cover of this, our first 7” single. This was originally drawn for the poster and flyers of a club at the old bar Loose on Fredrikinkatu (that's it's rain-drenched window in the background) entitled “Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down”. In the weeks after his death, looking at the original of this image I had hanging framed on my wall I realized there was a hidden message at work behind the surface.

In some sense, we are all sitting at the bar, and Death pours us a drink, fills our glass to the brim. It is up to us whether we drown ourselves in it, or rise and walk on. Oblivion may be sweet, “but we have promises to keep / and miles to go before we sleep.” This is the lesson our friend Kustaa teaches us from beyond the grave.

If you aren’t willing or able to buy it, you can listen to the songs on their soundcloud. I especially enjoyed this opening track Three Years that I added below. Reminds me of all kinds of great 90′s american indie bands from Buffalo Tom to Dinosaur Jr.. The second track Echo on the Telephone on the other hand has some great classic power pop elements and wouldn’t feel out of place on those Shake Some Action compilations that I’ve been collecting recently..."

Varsinkin rummut ja toinen laulaja toivat paikoitellen mieleen Stiv Bators/Lords of the New Churchin, Greenhouse AC:n tai jopa Pelle Miljoonan. Vaihtelua toi kahden eri laulajan käyttö. Hyvin pysyi kitaristikin tolpillaan, vaikka valitteli kuumeen nousseen juuri ennen keikkaa. Tästä musasta tuli vain yksinkertaisesti hyvälle tuulelle."
