After long anticipation, Vokab Kompany is prepared to unveil its first record since 2015, Small Viktories, on Gravitas Recordings. This masterfully crafted nine-track album is an audio journal of an expansive variety of themes that range from altruistic feels, party anthems, political commentary, and romantic intimacy. Despite the multiplicity within these subjects at first glance, each track is connected with cutting hip-hop vocals and funky electronic soundscapes. Featuring several collaborations with sensational artists, Vokab Kompany ensures this long awaited creation was well worth the wait.

Produced by bass music pioneer JPOD, “Like That” packs a powerful punch out of the gate that is full of soulful hip-hop to make you want to sing. Produced by Megan Hamilton, “Fabtastik” hastens the pace with her signature catchy grooves and funky sax riffs. Equipped with a thumpin’ groove by producer AHEE, listeners are soon warned it’s going to take a whole life to “Get It Right.” A love story has its genesis in “Classic” through a decelerated alto, as deep affections are proclaimed towards the beloved. Gangster rap legend Mitchy Slick joins in on “30 Stores Up,” produced by chillhop mastermind Cloudchord, as they look into a past life through melodious house tunes. In collaboration with Crush Effect, “MVP” continues the love story with high-energy as listeners are welcomed into the inner thoughts of the captivated admirer. Infiltrating a state of euphoric bliss, Lily Fangz and MIDIcinal invite the duo to “Coffee & Chill.” Mitchy Slick and Alfred Howard engage in deep commentary on contemporary politics in “PoliTricks” that simultaneously represents hope for change and inspires people to take care of their neighbor. Rounding the album out at nine, Vokab Kompany offers an instrumental version of "30 Stories Up" to provide an emotional conclusion to the eclectic collection.

What happens when you combine groovy New York funk with deep southern Georgia soul? The Lipphead Remixed EP aims to find out. 

Releasing on both Young Heavy Souls and Philos Records, digitally and on 7” vinyl, the offering is a one of a kind amalgamation of tastemakers producing a unique electro-sonic sound. 

Lipphead is the 2019 collaborative project from New York producers @blockheadnyc and @eliotlipp. The self-titled EP release on Young Heavy Souls includes two tracks, “Slippery Fingers” and “Just To Prove.” 

When Philos Records label mates @daily-bread and @derleemusic heard the two track work from their peers, they were inspired to put their individual spin on the sounds. This duo’s debut collaborative recording occurred back in 2016, with their 9-track Divided Souls LP release. Combining vision and style again, the Lipphead Remixed EP sees the pair each handling one rack and flavoring them with southern grit and soulful samples.

The message of the Alive album is to live in the moment, for it is the only time that exists. A large portion of this album was written during the pandemic, and political turmoil of the world. Alive is a reflection of the need for gratitude of the current moment, enjoyment of what is, and the realization of the actions and steps needed to move through troubling times. This concept is depicted in the music as well as visually, the skull character represents the ever present reminder that death is inevitable for all of us. Our communal uniting fate. He reminds us that what we have now is such a blessing and that even in the worst of times we must search for things to be grateful for in the moment, because it is the only moment that will ever exist.
