Seven Succulents is a continuation of my 2009 release Six Silicates. Where Six Silicates was a nod to crystals, Seven Succulents explores the weird and wonderful world of desert plants. The music thrives and grows from a single seed, winding its roots delicately through sand, communicating through beacons of sound sent across vast arid landscapes. The songs are named after plants I have tended and cared for over the years, and the collection exists as an homage to the wonders of nature; a love note for quiet desert foliage. 

Seven Succulents features additional musicians Mike Greenfield (of LOTUS) on drums, Samuel Wexler on violin, Timmayo Sheehan on flute, Lynne Watts on vocals, and “The We’re Home Family Drum Brigade" crammed in my living room making a whole lot of noise.

With the album "Sommerstraße" electronic artist Spoq presents an unusual, cinematic feel- good album. Deeply chilled beats, lush synthesizers, hypnotic melodies and sharp glitches are composed to unique arrangements, which speak their own meditative language. However this album is not background music. Inspired by a collection of old photos of different places he came to aquire, Spoq gives us his own thoughtful interpretation of places and people he has never seen for himself or met. The concept is simple and complex at the same time: Instead of writing a hymn to a place, you might have visited during vacation (think Ibiza), this music represents the emotions and associations that the spectator has, when looking at a capture of an unknown place from another time. "Sommerstraße" is very artistic and demands and also deserves an in depth listening as the tracks are layered with so many details, subtle progressions and tiny rhythmic noises. Spoq's signature of using processed acoustic instruments, foley sounds and electronic noises to form unconventional, yet uplifting beats and melodies is more than present here. Tracks like "Grinzing" or "Zemlinsky" without any question feel like independent movie soundtracks, which is not a coincidence, since Wolfram Gruss, the writer and composer behind Spoq, mainly produces film soundtracks. If you wanted to put this album in a genre, you could call it cinematic idm or maybe trip hop. Spoq however, is never shy to bend genres to surprising twists and turns that defy categorisation. "Sommerstraße" is a skillfully crafted beautiful collection of unique, independent music full of pretty little sounds and well worth close attention to all of the thirty tracks.

Spoq is an electronic music project created by songwriter and composer Wolfram Gruss. Since 2014, Spoq has released a vast collection of engaging, intelligent, and experimental tracks. The project is at home in various genres, such as Downtempo, Lofi-Hiphop, Garage, Wave, Ambient, and IDM, but also ventures into new forms of sonic expression. The music is often cinematic and thought-provoking, blending acoustic and classical instruments and melodies with massive beats, crisp electronic percussion, deep synthetic basslines, and atmospheres. Wolfram frequently uses sampled found noises, which he processes into instruments, adding a unique organic feel to the compositions.


However, the project's primary objective is to evoke contrasting emotions. The tracks are complex, both in their sonic depth and dramatic storytelling. Spoq knows like view others power of subtelties to send his audience on an emotional rollercoaster. The music can seamlessly move from a calm and comfortable state to an outburst of surprising happiness or the darkest, saddest moods within one single track. Although Spoq's music may appear sweet, it has a biting edge that makes it an exceptional listening experience.


Wolfram Gruss, the creative mind behind Spoq, resides in Aschaffenburg, Germany, and works full-time as a composer and sound designer for film, documentary, advertisement, interactive and live media. In addition, he releases his own tracks on independent and major labels.
