Jamila & The Other Heroes’ new single is influenced by Gnawa music, Khaliji Gulf Region songs, as well as Westafrican Beats; appreciating the inspirations of artists such as Aziza Brahim, Tony Allen, Tinariwen, Shishko Disco and Toot Ard.

Now Jamila & The Other Heroes release the concept double single YABA (04.06.21) and BORDER SYNDROME (mid June 2021), in which lead singer Jamila Al-Yousef is embracing her Palestinian roots by sharing her 2nd generation diaspora narratives with the world; imagining a futuristic border free Middle East that comes after the pain of being apart.
In YABA يابا, the first single of the two to be released, Jamila is asking her father about his memories of Palestine after 50 years in exile and describes what she found when travelling there on her own:
Do you remember how your home looked like? And which pictures were on the wall?
Do you remember the taste of the olive oil? Tell me about it Dad!
Do you remember how they kicked you out? And what you put in your box?
Do you remember the photo of your father, the one that got lost?
I visited after many years The house is still the same
I saw the sad mountains Where did my family go, yaba?
In the second part of the song, Jamila moves to the present, sharing her own experiences in Palestine, by addressing the sea: Who is swimming inside of you? “This is a reference to Palestinians in the Westbank being prohibited to move freely to the Mediterranean or Dead Sea. There are people my age who have never seen the sea that is only 30 min away.“, Jamila explains. Later she is chanting to the moon: Who is dancing and smiling under your light?, as a symbol of her own memories of beautiful concerts and togetherness with the people in the Middle East.
„We recorded the double single with Lucky (Martin Waschkowitsch) at the famous Bewake Studios Berlin, where most of Parcels‘ records have their home.“ Jamila tells us.

“How do things come to life? How does meaning appear?” These are questions that have informed Lifestream, the 2019 release by German composer, electronic producer, and classically trained pianist @johannes-motschmann. Conceived as a narrative arc, the album reflected the natural cycle of all things – from birth to death. Meticulously composed and gloriously realised, it succeeded in bringing such overarching concepts to life in rich, vivid ways. A year on, the German musician has invited friends and collaborators to breathe even more life into Lifestream for a new remix EP.

English techno pioneer, @luke-slater and German Berghain veteran, @chris-liebing both chose to remix the title track of Motschmann’s album taking the original tune into their own clubby spheres. Slater, who is a household name in the Brit-techno since the early 90s gave his version of Lifestream an insistent beat under which echoes of piano and other fragments of Motschmann’s track can be heard nostalgically. Liebing, who is a driving force in the German electronic music world with his ever- innovative approach, took the track into a deep and dark world of his own.

“What fascinated me most about Luke and Chris’ remixes was that they both developed the music and its underlying traces in very different ways, so what are actually secondary voices in my track suddenly came to the fore, and the main voices recede,” observes Motschmann of the two reworks. “It's like a development into worlds of sound in which my music might otherwise never appear - As DJs, Luke and Chris take a different outlook on music making than I do, with my often very theoretical approach. The remixes have given me the opportunity of a new perspective: the composer becomes an astonished listener of his own melodies because they unexpectedly appear in a different context.”

Chris Liebing is DJ, producer, radio host and the driving force behind the labels CLR and Spinclub Recordings. His sound has continuously evolved during his DJ career, always true to his techno roots. Although his contributions to the field have already firmly established him as one of the field’s great names, Liebing continues to innovate in the DJ booth with a setup more befitting a teenage computer game obsessive as well as releasing new material time and again. He’s known for playing hard, bouncy techno that is inspired by philosophy; always-deep tracks that range from looming apocalyptic landscapes filled with a sense of dread, to more optimistic emotional meditations.

Blind Tomorrow is a emotional track that tells a story about mental health struggles that the band went through in the last two years of hardships amplified by the pandemic. The single is supported by a music video that portrays when you have depression for breakfast, anexiety for dinner and panic attacks as a desert.

Die TickTickBoom-Members Pyro One und Refpolk greifen zu den Backpacks und reisen auf der Kollabo-EP „Aufstand der Rucksäcke“ mit wehenden Fahnen und zwinkernden Auges durch die letzten zwanzig Jahre HipHop-Soundästhetik.

Mit „Aufstand der Rucksäcke“ knüpfen Refpolk und Pyro One an eine Zeit an, als BoomBap noch neu und nicht Vintage war und Microphone Mafia und Anarchist Academy bereits „Her mit dem schönen Leben“ forderten. Refpolk & Pyro One luden die US-amerikanische Rapperin und Aktivistin Shirlette Ammons auf ein Feature mit dem Titel „Straßennamen“ ein. Mit „Lamo“ begeben sich die Aufständischen aus der Denkerpose und widersetzen sich dem erfolgvorgaukelnden Leistungsdruck des männerbündlerishen HipHop so sympathisch wie es nur geht: „Wer war nochmal dieser fame? Hm, mir nicht bekannt.“ Dass Skill-Fragen auf diesem Release nicht mehr diskutiert werden müssen, zeigt auch der Standard, den Spion Y auf dem DJ-Skit mal eben setzt.

Refpolk und Pyro One gießen Understatement und Selbstbewusstsein auf 2014er BoomBap-Beats von Flox Schoch, Majus Beats und Mister Mo und in eure Playlisten.

In diesen zurückliegenden Sommertagen hat Kaltland erneut seine hässliche Fratze gezeigt. 15 Jahre nach Rostock Lichtenhagen brannten wieder Fackeln vor Flüchtlingsheimen und der Mob aus Faschisten, besorgten Bürgern und anderen Trollen zog, stumpfe Parolen brüllend, durch die Straßen. Kurz entschlossen produzierte Majus einen Beat und Pyro One packte sein Wut, Zorn und gefühlte Ohnmacht auf den Track „Sommermärchen“. Es ist, bleibt und wird immer alternativlos sein: „Refugees are Welcome“ und Faschos haben eins auf die Fresse verdient.

Der Track „Sommermärchen“ erscheint als Free Download. Wir würden uns über eine Spende von 1. Euro pro Download freuen und werden dieses Geld an die Initiative „Flüchtlinge Willkommen“ weiterleiten. Solidarität muss praktisch werden.

'Digging for gold' reiht sich in Julian Maier-Hauffs exzellente Fähigkeit ein, Songs zu kreieren, die eine einzige Aufforderung zur Bewegung sind. Wie schon bei 'Not Yet Begun' legen sich die Vocals von R0T0M0D wie ein temperamentvoller Film auf die Klangoberfläche.

Für die EP „Es gibt ein richtiges Leben im falschen: meins“ hat form es erstmalig geschafft, sein gewöhnlicherweise sehr ausuferndes Programm auf neun Tracks zusammenzustampfen.  Soll heißen: form hat viel zu sagen und das nun auf besonders wenig Raum mit viel Punch. Dabei geht es um das, was der Titel verspricht: Das richtige Leben. form erklärt dazu, was das richtige Leben sein soll: „Sei kein Arschloch, sondern ein Gutmensch. Das heißt und daraus folgt: Tu etwas gegen den Zustand der Welt“. Außerdem bittet er darum, Haltung zu bewahren, Humor zu haben, das Wesentliche im Blick zu haben und kein Betonkopf zu werden. forms Lösung: „Setz dich mit anderen Leuten hin, trinkt Çay und redet darüber“. Das kann natürlich noch nicht alles sein, also wird munter weiter gefordert: „Schafft Frontex ab, schafft den Rassismus ab, baut eine Welt ohne Sexismus und wahnsinnige Männlichkeitsvorstellungen und all diese Scheiße. Werdet funky“.

Die Beats auf der EP sind von form selbst, Dramadigs, Tufu, Knowsum und Jimbo Matsumoto. Auch auf der formalen Seite bietet form mit der EP ein Fest: Technikabfahrten mit x-fach verschachtelten Reimen, Homophonie, Parallelismen, die sich über acht Zeilen weg hinziehen, atemloses Dahinbrettern, aber auch ganz ruhige Lieder.

prim ist ein Verwandter von form. Aber wie das ist mit anderen Menschen: Sie sind anders. prim weiß vielleicht nicht ganz, warum, aber er ist traurig. Die EP-Seite von prim heißt: „Il y a peut-être de la vie sur le toit “. Einsam und verlassen, voller Schwerkraft.  Ob ein trauriges Märchen („Der Klippenspringer“), eine traurige und gleichzeitig paradoxe Sehnsucht nach erlaubter Abweichung („Ich will auch anders sein“) oder der einzige Feature-Part der Doppel-EP, der aus einem dunklen Brunnen heraus im Duett mit der Sonne selbst erzählt: Einsamkeit und das Leiden daran.

Die sehr stimmungsvolle und melancholische Produktion kommt komplett von einem der meistunterschätzten Producer Europas: mattr aus der Schweiz. Mit tief in Moll schwimmenden Melodien aus vielen Flächen, manchmal bis auf die 64tel heruntergebrochenen und synkopierten, harten und heruntergepitchten Drums erschafft mattr auf musikalischer Ebene genau die Schwerkraft, die prim in den Texten auslotet.

Im gleichnamigen Titelsong seines erstens Albums „Ums Ganze“ fasst der Rapper Torkel T zusammen, worum es in seiner Musik geht: Neben persönlichen Inhalten über zwischenmenschliche Beziehungen und Konflikte, werden auch politische und gesellschaftliche Themen aufgegriffen. Das stilistische Portfolio reicht dabei von gebührender Ernsthaftigkeit, über lockeren Humor und Sarkasmus, bis hin zu leidenschaftlichen Ausbrüchen.

Während zum Beispiel der Song „Vergangene Zeit“ einen Rückblick auf die Biographie des Rappers vornimmt, beschäftigt sich „Gender Rules“ auf überwiegend ironische Weise mit sexistischen Klischees. Diese werden auch in „Gezüchtet Um Zu Sterben“ aufgegriffen, der sich mit Fleischkonsum, sowie im speziellen der darüber stattfindenden Konstruktion von Männlichkeit auseinandersetzt. In „Daneben“ geht es dagegen um losgelöstes Feiern und gegen das Erwachsensein. Im Gegensatz dazu richtet sich der Song „Nationaler Hype“ gegen ‚unverkrampft‘-deutschen Partypatriotismus. „Kennst Du Das Gefühl“ beschäftigt sich mit Polizeigewalt und Repression, während „Was Wäre Wenn“ den gesellschaftlichen und politischen Umgang mit Geflüchteten anprangert. Der Titelsong „Ums Ganze“ spricht thematisch alle weiteren 12 Songs der Platte an, und umfasst somit deren gesamtes inhaltliches Spektrum.

Denn „Ums Ganze“ bedeutet Nachdenken, Spaß haben, Solidarität – es schlägt den Bogen von reflektierenden Tönen und Lyrics zur selbstbewussten Punkrock-Attitüde.

In seinem Unterfangen ist Torkel T nicht alleine. Sein Album wird von mehreren Featuregästen bereichert: dem ehemaligen Rapkollegen Boykott, der poetischen Newcomerin Meesu und der „Good Vibez“-verbreitenden Yansn (Springstoff).

Für die krachenden, smoothen und tanzbaren Beats sorgen @LeijiONE und Flox Schoch (zusammen als Beat2.0). Ersterer ist außerdem verantwortlich für den Mix und das Recording. Shem sorgt für das abschließende Mastering. Livebegleitung als DJane, sowie die Cuts gehen auf das Konto von Riva (Anarchist Academy).

Tereza gives her insight: “No Reason’ is a very important song for me. It tells a story about our history where men and women grew apart. We created ridiculous binarities of masculinity and femininity that has been damaging our minds and souls for centuries and we claim that it's natural. We make wonderlands out of each other saying that someone is not able to be or do something because of their gender. I think that the most dangerous phenomenon in the world is when one group calls the other group “The Others” because most of the time it leads to injustice. That is why the message of the song is that we should leave behind the dichotomies. There is no reason to keep them because all genders are splendid.”
