I wanted this mix to serve as an introduction to some of the UKG sounds I’m interested in for those who might not be familiar with them (Breakstep, Speed Garage, Nu-dark Swing, Dubstep, etc.), and the pace of mixing is kept high to squeeze all of this into a traditionally short mix. Recently I’ve been giving focus to the ravey, high-octane parts of the garage spectrum which have an intense bass-driven energy, and fit well the developing sound of the Power Play main room. My DJing style favours energy and excitement over imperceptibly tight mixing, so I’ve done my best to capture this vibe whilst keeping it clean enough to enjoy outside of the club. Definitely best enjoyed on a vast system so that you can feel the bass, but failing that a decent set of headphones will do.
