The Overcast ☂ 024: Sprout x Castillo - Live @ Back 2 Bucha

Hello friends! Sprout here, extremely excited to present the the 41st episode of the Overcast by yours truly. 

It was a huge honor to close out the 9th Umbrella Nights and play a ton of tracks that I've been waiting to play to a full room since I started DJing in my bedroom 6 years ago. This mix is really all over the place. I come out the gate with a couple of tech house mashups, show off some of my bass music roots in the middle, and close things out with some of my favorite deep tech vibes and disco jams. It includes records by my producer friends Drew Dapps, Memo Rex, Ocean Roulette, and I even threw in some little known house bangers by the likes of which you wouldn't expect such as GTA, Flosstradamus, Zeds Dead, Doctor P, and Knife Party. I dig like nothing else in any corner for music that makes my head turn in a different way each time, and hope I succeeded in turning yours.

Also if you're not aware, December 14th marks the 11th Umbrella Nights, the last one of the year, as well as the last one to take place at the Kava Lounge. This series has meant so much to myself and the rest of the AUF squad and I really hope we can get our whole family in the building. The Afternoon Umbrella Friends is about the community more than anything and I can confidently say we have the best one around. We're having a toy drive for the holidays so bring a present for someone less fortunate and you'll get some good karma coming your way! <3

It's almost poetic that The Afternoon Umbrella Friends began with throwing desert parties, then came blazing onto the scene throwing some of the best parties seen at our beloved Kava Lounge last year, then returned to the desert with their biggest production to date only to have it be pretty much the last big gathering we would have for a long long time! During Umbrella Weekend, an escape of great music and impressively interesting logistical challenges, this man kept his cool, listened and valued the input of peers, and adapted for the good of the experience as a whole, and it comes through in his set, as a true sonic journey for the space we were all in, together.

He wouldn't let the shutdowns stop AUF and in fact, with the help of his trusty "Quaranteam" has developed one of the staple Twitch livestreams coming out of San Diego with UmbrellaFriendsTV! To understand how Sprout truly thinks of the whole, you just need to hear how he views the benefits of this nimble digital transition; a way to keep our crew growing and connecting for the music and expression they love!
