I've been moving house, everything is absolutely all over the place. These songs probably reflect that. What a ballache.                                                Anyway, I decided I still wanted to record one song a week during last week of December and January whilst the move was going on. Just to keep things ticking over and to see what comes out, this is here in the order I recorded them in.                                                                                                       Also, it's called Frank for no other reason than my mate Rob admitted he was petrified of Frank Sidebottom as a child. So I thought, put him on the cover, being slowly revealed; why not? Out of the darkness, there must come out the light

Frank

Album of songs written and recorded during February and March 2023. It's named after an old book of my grandad's that used to intrigue me as a kid that was about breeding English Bull Terriers. It was full of odd names and pictures, and just seemed like an obscure thing to exist. Anyway some of the songs are deliberately a bit folky and slapdash cos I started with a small list of acoustic bits I had unfinished and went from there.

After Bar Sinister

Took it a bit easy, so this is all my new songs from April, May, and June. Includes a few covers, some songs are a bit folky. All the usual themes. Boomshanka!

A Number of Mirrors

Started writing/recording these at the start of July, continuing through into August. Sort of aiming to write songs which we're a bit more unorthodox, whether that be instrumentally or structurally, maybe go off tangents, have extended break/solo parts, etc. Mostly to see if anyone noticed or not. Anyway, I gave myself ten weeks to record a ten track album, but at the end of the ten weeks, I had sixteen songs, so I split it into two albums and carried on recording, that was how The Spiral Staircase album came about. The songs are about life and death, the usual stuff, contrasts. Sponges, as in we are all sponges. 

Sponges

This album was recorded during August and the start of September, alongside the Sponges album when I found I just had too many songs to put on the one album. I tried to be a bit darker in theme than on Sponges, and more straight to the point. To contrast the guitar songs with some lighter piano work on others, alternating it. Until finally, I just recorded the last five songs in five days, did a few covers, and called it a day. Because I'm gonna take a little break from making music, relax, and write a few more before starting the next one. Huzzah!

Spiral Staircase To Nowhere

Had to go back to my old ways for a bit, basically it's all performed "live", but overdubbed in layers kinda thing, no drums so using the cajon, no midi so microphone pressed up to the keyboard speaker, all due to moving house and lack of internet. Fancy.

We are the music makers. We are the dreamers of dreams.

Trying to be a songwriter before anything else, I play guitar a bit, same with piano. Just 'having a go' at the rest really. 
I suppose originally, my aim with this was to make a good, complete sounding album. In the process, I've discovered that no one listens to albums anymore, so now I'm just trying to write good songs. I aim for at least one a week and usually manage it. On top of that I have also spent a bit of time in 2023 remixing my earlier songs. I'm putting these on as I go, and it is making it seem like I'm producing a lot more than I actually am.

I record/produce the songs using the same copy of CooleditPro that I've had since 2007. I do the drums/piano on bandlab.

In principle, I'm up for collaboration, but in practice... I find it just doesn't work over the Internet. Takes too long. 
I'd prefer it if someone just covered some of my songs. Do it! I'll tell you the chords and everything, if you'd like.

SpukSchreibMaschine means haunted typewriter in archaic German, there isn't a good reason that I'm called it.

I use Repost-exchange. Because, seriously, how else are you meant to get people to listen to you?
