RAVE CLUB _ November' 89 _ Final Part 06.


Cologne’s legendary RAVE CLUB [ http://www.psychothrill.de/?page=item&post=339 ] had caused quite a stir as a club institution in the Dome city during the years 1988 and 1989, not only throughout Germany, but also on an European basis – e.g. via features in FACE and I-D, as well as through its monthly schedule and its bookings [et al. Marshall Jefferson, Kym Mazelle, EPMD, Todd Terry…] together with the residents. For the first time, there now were club nights in Cologne, which were solely dedicated to House and Acid without any compromise and these also became an example in many respects for anything substantial that has been going on in Cologne’s night life ever since, be it Space Club, Elevator, Warehouse, “PSYCHO THRILL” or “Total Confusion” and which laid a foundation for all kinds of sounds that any Psycho Thrill guest has been experiencing since 1991 on a regular basis: Get right on matey – there are no rules, fear is unknown and sleep is out of question!

“This rather techy sixth prime-time part from a mix series of myself- sorry here again for a few slight rumbles – was recorded during one of my rare solo nights without my partner Roland Casper sometime in November of 1989. It was done with a crappy RAIN mixer lacking gain control, only allowing semi-professional monitoring and I would kick any promoter’s ass for this today. The DJ booth also was exposed to some disturbances by visitors, which accounts for some of the skips during the mix. But the complete works of euphoric clubbers and the extraordinary atmosphere, which was created by the combination of a very good sound system, light and sound [two strobes, a fog machine, two flowers], made this club experience so absolutely valuable. That was the place, where we started the House and Techno “shit” first in Cologne.” [Claus Bachor about Rave Club Cologne] 

This 6th mix part of Claus Bachor's RAVE CLUB Cologne mix series also features another special track collection of classic HOUSE music that conjures up the 4/4-class of '89, and its unpredicted blend of Deep-House/Garage, Acid, HipHouse, EBM including early Techno and Detroit Techno. 

The mixwork went under sound restoration by Cologne's finest JEAN BARTH [ http://soundcloud.com/jean-h-u-i-barth ] from some TDK tapes (that were recorded on a Yamaha tape recorder, so the quality is poor at times, but it is an authentic sound document of Cologne’s club life in the late 80s on the other hand) and got finally re-mastered there.

Guys,

I greet you out there again, somewhere on this Planet.
We are in the fourth year of this Electronic Arts Podcast and with this edition we reach a point that I actually never even dreamed of at the beginning.
Actually a small anniversary, ESOA podcast number 50!
Which was only possible with a very big thanks and will continue to be in the future, with my great guests. Who make the whole thing what it is, a podcast with continuously selected good music.
For this edition it was clear for a long time that we needed a musician, a nerd, or even better a veteran, who stands behind the electronic subculture unbroken and with a lot of heart. I found him and he immediately said yes.
Claus Bachor has been active since the seventies. He got where he is today via US-Soul, Funk and 70s Disco. A techno pioneer without equal. What's more, he always keeps an eye on tradition. He stands unbroken with vinyl behind the turntables and always presents classic, unadorned sound.
I could go on like this forever, but you could write a whole book about Claus Bachor. So let's turn to the important part, the Music.

Live recorded while Cologne's Techno stalwart Claus Bachor (alongside DJ3000/ Frankie Juncaj, David Langer, Chris Baumann, and others on two floors) played that energetic club mix down there at the PARKSIDE AC (today's HOTEL EUROPA) basement in Aachen GER, on February 27th, 2010.

Cologne-based Sebastian Scrapić, also known under his moniker COMING ON STRONG, still confounds the limitation of having to place his own tracks in various columns with his past releases that are hard to classify, i.e., as cutting edged House and Techno Music in its purest sense. With the current release "Transitions 2 _ Vintage Riddims" Scrapić consciously leaves the path of Minimal Techno that was initially chosen. And instead, in the second stunning round, turns to an exciting melange of earlier influences that were decisive for him, such as classic House, 80s Disco, 90s NYC 4/4 and Breaks/Electro. Unfortunately, the four original track recordings from 2001 that are now available here were temporarily lost on a hard drive that was also damaged. But as luck would get it, this reappeared during an office reorganization. 

The rest was basically routine work. In which Cologne's "one and only" Emanuel Geller (Salz-Mastering https://www.salz-mastering.com/) professionally carried out the reconstruction of the damaged tracks as well as the mastering. And to which label-buddy Chris Baumann (https://www.instagram.com/chrsbmnn/) put two of the tracks more than competently in the remix context of contemporary Tech-House like AcidBreaks. The result was another convincing Scrapić HiTech-Audio-Constructon, not only for all open minded House Headz. All this including slamming remix-werk that definitely don't have to evade the current competition.

Last but not least, one of Cologne's rising star DJ-newcomers MaeshRoom.bOy (originally from Ivano-Frankivsk UA / https://linktr.ee/maesh.room.b0y) took over the demo mix presentation for "Transitions Vol.2". The result could not have turned out better.

Part of the future never dies. And as owner of the long-running Cultivated Electronics label, Phil Bolland's been making sure that the electro sound pioneered in the early-80's by Ryuichi Sakamoto and Afrika Bambaataa (among others) remains the forward-thinking dancefloor ammunition it always has been.

Since starting the label in 2007 (though he's been releasing music on other imprints since 2003), Bolland's dedication to the genre has been unwavering. Electro has fallen in and out of fashion over the years, but it seems to be enjoying another purple patch of late. Recent music from stalwarts such as DJ Stingray and The Exaltics and newcomers like Shanti Celeste prove it's a style that continues to find favour with dancefloors over 30 years since its inception.

With "SpyInTheHouse" he now returns after 10 years to the “radio business” on a regular basis, where he had been mediating the essentials of electronic music for years between the Techno/House main cities such as Detroit, Chicago or Berlin via "Evosonic" (1997 - 1999) and Cosmium Radio (1999 - 2002). Something that currently wasn’t that easy.

So "SpyInTheHouse" continues to follow the path of enthusiastic overtones and stands simply for the democracy of the so-called "cutting edge" tracks of House, Techno, Acid, Broken Beat and IDM that do sometimes leave the usual club microcosm according to the motto "Take the best from the past and move the next step 4ward into the future!"
