This is the kind of track I like to mix - bluesy, soulful, unabashed rock with a singer that isn't afraid to let it rip.  Hearing how live-sounding these tracks were and yet how cleanly captured, I felt like I wanted to keep the vibe while dirtying things up just a little; kind of like a Black Keys journey into vintage sounding guitars and vocals with the drums out in a hallway somewhere but with a bottom-end inspired by modern pop/hip-hop.

To try and accomplish that, I reamped the Bass DI, Guitar, Kick, and Vocal through the compressor circuit of a UA 4-710d, then an old Acoustic Solid State 260 head powering a bass cabinet with two 15" woofers.  I was looking for bottom end on all the tracks, as well as some healthy tube grit on the Vocals and Guitar from the 710d.

The Kick was mic'd with an AKG D112, Guitar with an SM57, and Bass and Vocals with an SM7, all captured back into a ProTools HD10 rig through a Yamaha 01V96i via a Lynx Aurora 16.

In the mix, I blended the bottom end of the reamped tracks with the original Kick, Bass, Vocal, and Guitar, using it like a double for the Vocal and Guitar by playing with volume and panning.

I used the 710d again for the Vocal on the mixdown as well as a number of plugins from McDSP and Waves for EQ and compression (as well as the BF-76), Lexicon for reverb, SPL Transient Designer for whatever you wanna call its magic, SPL TwinTube and Lo-Fi for added tube-like harmonics, SoundToys EchoBoy for chorus.  Oh and mono delay from the Yamaha.

I mixed mostly through Event 20-20s (yes, because i got them a long time ago) but referenced everything through Triple P Pyramids and Sony MDR-7506 headphones.  Everything was summed through a Dangerous Music 2-BusLT paired up with a D-Box.
