*Synthetic Epiphany is a young talented producer from United Kingdom. However by no means is he new to the production world.

Nobody does that dark, moody garage better than Ghostek, and this was the defining example from his Lost Tapes EP. The bass has tremendous power, and as always, you never quite know where the drums on a Ghostek track are going to take you, and the little vocal snippets are used sparingly, and only appear at their most effective. The sort of track that would leave anybody that listens to it wanting more Ghostek

For the last couple of years Ghostek has haunted internet channels with ethereal mixes and a mounting number of "ghost garridge" works. Finally Lost Tapes is the producer's first official release for new label Square Harmony. 

As the name suggests, Ghostek's sound melds scissory 2-step with poignantly charged atmospherics. Few have managed to reach the same crushing Abyssopelagic depths with this formula as Burial, inhabiting instead the teeming waters somewhere a little closer to the surface. And here's where you'll find Lost Tapes—in between the Sun and Twilight zones. "Cryostasis" is the most abstract and interesting of the three. A minimal broken beat rattles around a busy pallet of onomatopoeic samples, warbles and melodic clips. "Night & Low Light" however is a much simpler affair, the typical future garage-y heart-tugger that metrically canters along a familiar albeit pleasing pathway. "Nomad" concludes on a sunken Echodub-style note with a chugging sub grumbling beneath billowy layers of vocal shards and chords. Though this particular EP won't be filling floors or jerking many tears, as far as autumnal afternoon accompaniments go they don't get much better.

V4YS EP Review - Axxo Lott - Finding Futura EP (Square Harmony Records)

Here is a pure deep house music gem coming from Russia on Square Harmony records, a little new independent label that is definitely worth adding to your watchlist.

I have not much info on the genesis of this Finding Futura EP by Axxo Lott, all I can say is that this is one of the very best House production I've been listening to in a while, especially the first track Feel It Too that has all it takes to take you higher : phenomenal synth layers, an unstoppable vocal chorus and a splendid slo-mo rythmic frame whose deep and heavy beats are simply impossible to resist.
Another proof that you don't need to throw out >120bpm beats to design great House Music !

(SH05) Ghost Ark - Hidden Souls Of Another Genre EP
Regular readers will know that I'm quite the fan of Russian label Square Harmony and their next release won't break the trend of solid, dark releases. Next up on the schedule is Ghost Ark, with his 'Hidden Souls Of Another Genre EP'.



The first piece, 'Hidden Souls' is a further sign that Ghost Ark has been taking more straight-up dubstep influences into his work recently, a bass-heavy atmospheric half-stepper that wouldn't have been out of place in 2006.

For me though, the second track, 'Street Corners' renders the first almost insignificant (No offence!), with dark, moody strings and distant ghost-like vocals snatching in and out over persistant 2-stepping drum patterns, that matches the title perfectly. Kind of reminds me of a hyper-atmospheric Pangaea track.

V4YS EP Review - Rush'd - For My Dogz EP (Square Harmony Records)

Earlier this year we mentionned up-and-coming Saint-Petersburg-based label Square Harmony following a brillant slo-mo house EP from Axo Lott titled Finding Futura.

Alternating lo-fi/house releases with uk-inspired future bass sounds, the Russian label is definitely gaining traction and is now back with a new treat, the For My Dogz EP by producer Rush'd (aka Educated Fool).

Gathering a couple of powerful, dark & bass-heavy dubstep cuts (For My Dogs and its remix by Koloah), the EP's hot part definitely is a soulful deep-dubstep anthem titled Easy that should have a few good dancefloors...easily shaking thanks to its warm keyboard and vocals samples supported by an infectious rythm.
