2021 brought the second year of SPARKY Art Car’s Virtual Burning Man appearence in the Dusty Multiverse. Along with a return of some SPARKY favorites, this year brought a new set of artists into our tribe of 100+ artists over the years. And with this year's epic showing, new genres, instruments, sounds, and musical surprises were at every turn.

Welcome back to the Magician On Duty Journey Series!

On this edition we welcome Deep Ghosh (@deep_schismic)

Deep (and yes, it really is his name) started his DJing journey in a sweaty club in Berlin back in 2017, where he witnessed his growing obsession for electronic music tip over from hobby to worthwhile passion. Since then, he has travelled to some of the dustiest and lushest corners of the globe from his hometown Melbourne to the beaches of Bali, from Black Rock City to the Tankwa Karoo of South Africa, from the mountains of Sinai to the Red Sea and beyond living out this passion. 

His musical selections are one of unabashed love of emotional, vocal melodies juxtaposition to the deeper end of the sonic spectrum, while showing the influences of his musical upbringing in rock music and pop culture as well as occasionally giving us peeks into the music of his ancestors.

While the world slowed down during the COVID-19 pandemic, Deep managed to stay engaged in his passion for music. Since 2020, he is one of the curators of the Flow Sessions long-format mix series. He is also co-organiser, curator and "rave engineer" of boutique gatherings such as UTOPIA Festival, as well as being involved in organizing Burner and underground gatherings in Berlin and Amsterdam (where he is based since 2020 in pursuit of his rather cosmic day job as a space engineer looking after climate monitoring satellite missions).

This mix really captures how I love to get lost in music, create emotional journeys and showcase some of my musical influences. It was one of those situations of being out in a magical corner of the world--on a boat, out on the turquoise waters of the Red Sea--with some of my nearest and dearest celebrating the birthday of a legendary woman, and opening the musical proceedings for a week of love laughter and riding the waves.

Heutzutage ist die Verführung eines aufgeblähten Egos groß. Man findet unzählige Gründe sich über andere Menschen zu erheben und sich selbst für etwas besseres zu halten. Diese Tendenz lässt sich sowohl gesamtgesellschaftlich, als auch im kleinen beobachten. Selbstverständlich hat das menschliche Ego eine unverkennbare Daseinsberechtigung. Es macht uns lebens- und überlebensfähig, es dient als Schutzwall und als Motor für unsere Handlungen und Taten. Problematisch wird es erst dann, wenn Egotrips dem Gemeinwohl in die Quere kommen. Eine überzogenes Ego nimmt dem Menschen die Weitsicht und den Blick für das große Ganze. Wie so oft ist auch hier die Balance gefragt und gefordert. In gewissen Situationen ist eine Entscheidung für das Kollektiv, auch die gewinnbringendste Wahl für einen selbst. Ein Perspektivwechsel kann einem da buchstäblich die Augen öffnen. Oft ist die Lösung nur einen Katzensprung entfernt …

Music consumes a big part of my life, from writing tracks, collaborating with singers and musicians, preparing for gigs, running my record label Smash bang, stressing if its good enough… It goes on and on and I wouldn’t have it any other way. There’s something about this long haired Italian guy with incredible productions and energy for 20. At our ADE showcase he had the task to open the Star Stage on Saturday after the changeover. Not an easy task and only a few can do it. Glauco nailed it.. As he does with all his sets. He brings out this animalistic joy in our crowd. We’ve seen it at Wild as the Moon and we saw it happening again at The Seekers of Light. 

Enjoy the recording of this epic performance. Let it drag you through this Monday or any other given day that you want to lift the spirit and enjoy the music.
