Chapter 34 is an EP that uses several knew forms of 21st century collaboration.

"Circle of Breath" is the most straight-forward. I sang the tune and sent it to Phoebe so that she could learn it and sing it herself. She sent me back a file with just her voice that I could mix into the project. This our third song that we have released together. Phoebe lives in London. We have never met.
In "Sounds of New York" I am collaborating with Brian Foo, an Innovator in Residence at the Library of Congress. Brian created "Citizen DJ" specifically so that DJs and composers could access public domain audio recordings at the LOC and incorporate them into their recordings. In this example, I am also collaborating with Tony Schwartz, renowned audio documentarian. I have never met nor communicated with Brian Foo. Tony Schwartz died in 2008, 12 years before I ever heard of him.
The EP opens with "The Acid Test", which uses public domain audio (including a reading of "Chapter 34 The Acid Test" from Max Brand's The Night Horseman), and singing from a woman found on Splice. Splice is a service where artists can offer snippets of their work for other artists to use in any way (for a small fee). 

It was exciting to collaborate with other artists and writers through space and time in these new ways that other artists couldn't have imagined even one generation ago.

Chapter 34

An EP of unlikely collaborations. Track 1 features a public domain reading of Chapter 34 from Max Brand's "The Night Horseman", and an interview conducted in 1941. Track 3 features the beautiful voice of Phoebe, who has recorded 3 of my songs, but whom I have never met. Track 4 uses audio I found in the Library of Congress' "Citizen DJ" repository, a collection of old audio recordings that LOC has made available for DJs and musicians to create music with. This is a wonderful, weird time to be collaborating with people.
