This is a very special podcast this week. Matt Lush decided to do something a little different digging up all his old records to give us a full blown all vinyl ROBERT HOOD inspired set. Wrap your ears around this one. It is good!!!

Matthew Lush is a Melbourne born DJ currently based in Sydney.

Matt Lush fell in love with electronic music in the mid-90s, he pin points seeing Derrick May and Stacey Pullen deejaying in a small warehouse in Melbourne’s industrial west igniting his obsession with Techno.

Siting influences such as Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke, Woody McBride, UR, Surgeon, early Dan Curtin and Laurent Garnier, to name but a few, Matt started tinkering behind the decks while based in Melbourne. But since moving to Sydney Matt quickly found his place in the local scene.

Over time, Matt’s ability to create an electric atmosphere in his mixes through blending the latest releases with lost gems from the past was noticed and he was quickly indoctrinated into the fold of crews like Charades and Trench.

A lover and collector of vinyl, Matt plays a range of sounds from across the techno, electro and house spectrum with a special love for the deep and the dark.

During his short time in Sydney Matthew has supported DJs and live acts such as Jeff Mills, Derrick May, Reeko, Kangding Ray, Answer Code Request, Ø [Phase], Darko Esser, Bas Mooy, Developer as well as playing at outdoor festivals including Subsonic, Psyfari Music Festival, as well as countless local warehouse and club gigs.

Frustration of Purpose

Edit: 27 August 2017, I like to listen to my own mixes often, on re-listens to this one, there were some transitions in the 2nd half I wasn't totally happy with. So, I recorded a better version a few weeks back, and have replaced the audio file here now. Same tracks, same order, but less rushed overall, some longer sections, and adding back the last track, Luca Agnelli - Aplu, which had been cut to fit the Fnoob show hour. Apologies for no new Black+Light show last month, June. I was away in Europe on holiday. Visiting London, Paris, Barcelona, Budapest, Vienna, and Berlin. 

I saw Depeche Mode [Live] in London and Berlin, fantastic! Reconnected with much missed old friends, and made many new ones too. Did a whole lot of clubbing all through the holiday, in Paris and Barcelona, and 3 amazing weekends in Berlin, there spent mostly in clubs: Berghain and Griessmühle, with a visit to Tresor too.

During my month long holiday, I experienced and danced to sets from (in order): Schwefelgelb [Live], Phase Fatale, Marco Shuttle, Perc, Rødhåd, Answer Code Request, Function, Revolt, Slam, DJ Bus Replacement Service, Silent Servant, Blawan, DVS1 Vs James Ruskin, Rumenige & Loktibrada, Antigone, DJ Nobu, TR-101 (DJ Pete & Sleeparchive) [Live], Marcel Dettmann, Len Faki, Mono Junk, Marco Shuttle, Area Forty_One, Kitkatone, Boston 168 [Live], Amotik, Setaoc Mass, L.B. Dubcorp, DVS1, Norman Nodge, and DJ HMC. 

Techno, techno, techno! Much fun was had!

Now back home in Sydney, it's winter, back at work, post-holiday depression kicking in...

This show/mix came together really quite quickly, selected a bunch of brand new tracks, a rough order in mind, and just went for it, hit record and into the mix I went. Not as planned out, programmed, post reviewed, re-recorded, and edited as I often do with my shows/mixes. 

I think it turned out alright. Definitely some musical inspiration from my European clubbing adventures: Solid beats, deep, dark atmospheres, harder, percussive intensity, with some melodic light too, a bit of a journey.

I was booked to do a DJ set at a secret, outdoor, suburban, party here in Sydney last Saturday night: Rivet X, but unfortunately police shut it down before I got to play, which was frustrating, it was building nicely, growing crowd, great vibes... Typical Sydney nanny/police state overreaction. 

This show/mix is similar to what you would have heard from my Rivet X set, I hope you enjoy!
