The Rabbit, according to the Chinese lunar calendar, symbolizes longevity, peace, and most suitable for the Unchained trajectory, creativity.  

Each year we set out to collate a mélange of ambiguous club-ready electronic whilst doing our part to cross that apparent divide between drum ‘n’ bass, jungle, footwork, grime and other members of the extended bass family.

We haven’t always been wed to the massive banger alone, but we have to admit, we always will be obsessed. We don’t consider ourselves possessed by sonic slabs that are looped beyond recognition, but we hold them in high regard just the same. 

So with that in mind, curating the Year of the Rabbit compilation took some time this year.

The Year Of The Rabbit showcases artists both emerging and established from China, Russia, England, Holland, and the United States. Be it wonky, divergent, mutant, deep, or simply in the vein of the pure epic club banger, every producer has something remarkable and distinctive going on.

We introduce and welcome back our 2023 Year of the Rabbit artist crew: Subp Yao, Radiax, Lakeway, Danky, Neve, Harka, Doctor Jeep, Leo Cap, Kray, Trophy, Airstrike, Throe, Pllfry and Dynamic Stab.

Throe - Killer On The Loose

Chimpo. Everyone knows Chimpo. Cos he’s like, well sick. And he’s from Manchester. And apparently Manchester is the sickest place on the planet. We can tell you now though, in no uncertain terms, with 100% clarity, with 110% certainty, that Oxford is way sicker than Manchester. It’s got boats, and universities and trees. Trust, it’s way sicker. 

However, one thing we’re happy to agree on, in no uncertain terms, with 100% certainty, is that Chimpo is double sick. Maybe even triple sick with a cherry and a little bit of squirty cream on top. And we’ve been loving his tunes for a hot minute, plus a couple more. So to have him drop a whole EP on CIA is like a box of juicy strawberries for us, and for you. 

The thing is you see, he just gets it. Knows the score. Sees the wood for the trees (the Oxford ones). And we rate that. It’s important. His Domino Rally EP gives a fully respectful nod to some of those great days and artists of earlier days, but it sounds like it’s made now. It’s not just looking back trying to be that, but also looking forward. The perfect blend. And we’re DJs init. So perfect blends are good.

Wunderkind Eptic has it all planned out – the upstart Belgian DJ returns on 6 May 6 with the release of his latest EP 'Mastermind'. The new EP will be released on powerhouse dubstep label Never Say Die Records and it features four filthy new tracks.

Since bursting onto the scene in 2011 Eptic (Michael Bella) has released three well-received EPs and has honed his skills through non-stop touring and by collaborating with and remixing established artists such as Habstrakt, SKisM, Excision and Datsik. He continues to play gigs around the world and will be touring Australia later this month.

'Mastermind' picks up where 'Like A Boss' left off (the 'Like A Boss' EP spent almost two months in the Top 10 of Beatport’s dubstep chart in 2012). The energetic first track 'Bust ‘em Out' (accompanied by an equally vibrant video) features a collaboration with Virus Syndicate. Dubstep stomper 'Mastermind' is classic Eptic and on the drum & bass 'Space Business' he branches out and shows his diversity. Lastly MRK1 turns up the heat on 'Bust ‘em Out' with his trap remix. The EP will be released worldwide on 6 May.
