The Rabbit, according to the Chinese lunar calendar, symbolizes longevity, peace, and most suitable for the Unchained trajectory, creativity.  

Each year we set out to collate a mélange of ambiguous club-ready electronic whilst doing our part to cross that apparent divide between drum ‘n’ bass, jungle, footwork, grime and other members of the extended bass family.

We haven’t always been wed to the massive banger alone, but we have to admit, we always will be obsessed. We don’t consider ourselves possessed by sonic slabs that are looped beyond recognition, but we hold them in high regard just the same. 

So with that in mind, curating the Year of the Rabbit compilation took some time this year.

The Year Of The Rabbit showcases artists both emerging and established from China, Russia, England, Holland, and the United States. Be it wonky, divergent, mutant, deep, or simply in the vein of the pure epic club banger, every producer has something remarkable and distinctive going on.

We introduce and welcome back our 2023 Year of the Rabbit artist crew: Subp Yao, Radiax, Lakeway, Danky, Neve, Harka, Doctor Jeep, Leo Cap, Kray, Trophy, Airstrike, Throe, Pllfry and Dynamic Stab.

Chimpo. Everyone knows Chimpo. Cos he’s like, well sick. And he’s from Manchester. And apparently Manchester is the sickest place on the planet. We can tell you now though, in no uncertain terms, with 100% clarity, with 110% certainty, that Oxford is way sicker than Manchester. It’s got boats, and universities and trees. Trust, it’s way sicker. 

However, one thing we’re happy to agree on, in no uncertain terms, with 100% certainty, is that Chimpo is double sick. Maybe even triple sick with a cherry and a little bit of squirty cream on top. And we’ve been loving his tunes for a hot minute, plus a couple more. So to have him drop a whole EP on CIA is like a box of juicy strawberries for us, and for you. 

The thing is you see, he just gets it. Knows the score. Sees the wood for the trees (the Oxford ones). And we rate that. It’s important. His Domino Rally EP gives a fully respectful nod to some of those great days and artists of earlier days, but it sounds like it’s made now. It’s not just looking back trying to be that, but also looking forward. The perfect blend. And we’re DJs init. So perfect blends are good.

In the picturesque coastal town of Slatine, Croatia, nestled between the azure waters of the Adriatic Sea and the lush greenery of the mainland, lived two friends, Quentin Hiatus and Thomas B. They had always been drawn to the mystique of the place, where the past seemed to blend seamlessly with the present. It was in this tranquil setting that their extraordinary journey began.

One summer, while staying at the local "Apartmani" - a cozy retreat perched on a hillside overlooking the sea - Quentin and Thomas stumbled upon an ancient book. Its pages were weathered and its words were written in a script they couldn't recognize. Intrigued, they delved into its enigmatic contents.

As they deciphered the cryptic writings, they uncovered stories of forgotten powers that resided within individuals, dormant and waiting to be awakened. The book spoke of realms beyond Earth, where the very fabric of reality could be manipulated by those who tapped into their inner potential.

The more they read, the more the lines between reality and possibility blurred. They began to experiment with the meditative techniques the book described. Slowly, they discovered that their minds held hidden reservoirs of energy - a force they could wield, not just within themselves but in the world around them.

With each passing day, their abilities grew stronger. Quentin found himself able to perceive the thoughts of animals and even influence their behavior. Thomas, on the other hand, realized he could alter the flow of time slightly, perceiving moments with astonishing clarity or expediting hours into mere minutes.

Their newfound powers led them on a journey beyond the limits of Earth. Guided by the wisdom within the ancient book, they set their sights on the red planet in the night sky: Mars.

Using their combined abilities, Quentin and Thomas constructed a vessel that transcended the boundaries of conventional technology. They harnessed their inner energy to propel themselves through space, their voyage sustained by their determination and the limitless wellspring of power they had tapped into.

Upon landing on Mars, they stood in awe of the alien landscape, feeling a deep connection to the planet's desolate beauty. Their abilities had evolved even further in the void of space, granting them the power to communicate with the very essence of Mars itself. They could feel its history, its untamed spirit, and its secrets waiting to be unveiled.
