Tim Vitek

Grid Based Beats is owned and operated by Tim Vitek. Vitek is an artist, audio engineer and educator living and working in Chicago, IL. With close to 20 years of music production experience, Vitek has released music on High Octane Recordings, Xylophone Jones Recordings, Digerati Music and his own imprint, Grid Based Beats. His music bridges the gap between experimental and straight laced, face melting techno.

His live shows also follow the same philosophy. Using a combination of a laptop, analog machines and the occasional hand made CMOS tone generator, Vitek's live shows remain free without any constraints.

Vitek received his BA from Columbia College Chicago in 1999 and his Master of Arts from Governors State University in 2011. His graduate research focused on progression theories, specifically, correlating visual spectrums and audio frequencies. Vitek is a Professor in the Music Production Department at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, IL.

MoQuannum: Soul To Sole, is a kindred fusion of past and present. To say the least, Motown records echo some of the greatest musicians and instrumental arrangements in musical history. Quannum - originally known as Solesides - is a like minded collection of artists that came together to pool their ideas and energy into something prolific and independent in contemporary music. I'm putting my art out there.

The Goodwill Projects began chipping away at Moquannum in 2008, it's been a long time coming. The intention was to deliver the tracks in a classy and minimal manner, as not to over cook them one bit. Rare or even raw. Most recently The Goodwill Projects contributed to the "Yasiin Gaye" Project which was created by Amerigo Gazaway, along as contributing to many other projects Gazaway has created.

Underground Resistance founder Robert Hood is one of the pioneering old guard who is still doing it right today. He is the epitome of Detroit house and techno, serving up pulsing minimal, and has been since the early nineties. Last year he joined our label for a series of three EPs entitled Paradygm Shift and a full length which will see the light of day the 22nd of May. The project is aimed to take techno out of its current comfort zone and very much did so, as does Hood himself whenever he plays one of our parties. 

Now he has served up the latest mix in our series and once again subverts expectation. His hour long Paradygm Shift Mix water no time in establishing a rock solid kick drum, and then proceeds to colour the airwaves around it with hypnotic hi hat loops, rougher claps, and raw synths. As ever with Hood, it is a bouncy and fast moving mix that hurries you along at a great rate, but because there are so many thrills along the way, you are more than willing to go wherever he wants to take you.
