"Last year I met Cypher.

I discovered a similar sensitivity through the moments we lived together. Through the words and the interiority they let me see.

I was more than happy when they asked me if i wanted to do a mix for Klarity Clinic.

What i wanted to do with the mix, the intention, was a big question for me.

I found my way in sharing my sensibility, which is quite stuck in the past. 

Nostalgia Is one of my engine and i found it interesting to explore it with sounds from the 2010s, sweet voices, percussions and even at the beginning a dialogue from Twin peaks. What i always wanted to hear from my father but never had.

In the ever-evolving landscape of music, few artists possess the versatility and creative depth of Cadence Weapon. Born Rollie Pemberton in Edmonton, Canada, Cadence Weapon is not just a rapper but a true sonic visionary, seamlessly weaving his talents as a poet, writer, producer, and DJ into a unique tapestry that defies genre constraints. His innovative approach to hip-hop and electronic music has garnered critical acclaim, making him a defining voice in contemporary music.

Cadence Weapon’s journey began in the early 2000s, emerging from the vibrant underground scenes of Edmonton and Montreal. His early albums, "Breaking Kayfabe" and "Afterparty Babies," showcased his ability to blend intricate lyricism with eclectic beats, earning him Polaris Prize nominations. But it was his relentless pursuit of musical exploration that truly set him apart, leading to collaborations with artists across genres and pushing the boundaries of what hip-hop could be.

His writing has seen Rollie appear on Pitchfork, The Guardian, Wired, The Globe and Mail and Hazlitt as well as publishing a memoir, Bedroom Rapper: Cadence Weapon on Hip-Hop, Resistance and Surviving the Music Industry in 2022. On his Substack, Rollie curates thoughtful essays, think pieces and recommendations, in a way that isn't about going viral or maximising engagement. This has led to him writing about topics such as ways of digging for new music, what's it like to tour in the pandemic era, what defines being a successful artist and much more. 

Earlier this year, Rollie released the new, highly-collaborative album 'ROLLERCOASTER', marking his sixth full-length release. To celebrate the release, Rollie provides a mix filled with album influences, with most of the tracks aligning with the theme of technology. Diving more into the album theme and concept in the accompanying interview, we also chat through how each of his creative fields feed into each other, his approach to the album format, how Canada has influenced his work over the years and more.

o:rbyss aims to help soothe the queer spectrum and focus on the well-being of the community. Queer DJs are invited to submit a mix to showcase an alternative side to their music library outside of a rave and take us on a meditative journey. ✨

Notes on the mix:

"When I moved out of my hometown for my studies, I started seeking out professional help with my mental health which has helped me a lot. One of the things that really stuck with me during a session with my therapist was when I was particularly sad about having to grow up quickly and the sense of partly losing my childhood; my therapist asked me what I would say to my younger self if I had the chance.

With this mix, I want to embody the reply I gave her:
You matter. Your feelings matter. 
You are strong, you are brave, you are smart, you are kind, and you are beautiful.
You deserve to take up space and you deserve to take your time.

For this mix, I chose a lot of nostalgia-inducing tracks, and made a blend of lullaby-esque melodies, dreamy vocals, and sounds of hopefulness and optimistic looks towards the future.

Here's to those of us healing our inner child. 
Hug them for me."

Ambu Bambu is a DJ/producer and programmer at Relate Radio, based in Groningen, the Netherlands. With breakbeat, electro, and percussive experimentalism, they will take you on a bouncy journey through electronic broken rhythms with musical nods to their Chinese heritage.
