Relentless and heavy dark electronic beats mingle with anger and anguish on Liliane Chlela’s latest album “Safala”. The Lebanese producer and hybrid DJ tapped into her personal memories to bring forth a sonic concoction anchored in the inherited oral epistemologies of her ancestors. Memories intertwine with Beirut, using incantations inherited from Chlela’s grandmother as building blocks to build an eight track album. From warding off the evil eye to protest sounds from the past year of events in Lebanon, the album haunts the listener to invoke a striking elegy on terror and anger, while inducing a rollercoaster of sonic eruptions.

Most of the sound palette was organically produced to mimic the remains of situations during which Chlela’s sonic memory aligned with the ‘keywords’ from the aforementioned incantations.

Taha Ennouri aka https://soundcloud.com/arktah is a drummer, percussionist, DJ and electronic music producer. Son of the Tunisian alternative scene, he was involved in plenty of projects and collaborations with various artists form different musical backgrounds, such as Chabbouba Stambeli Urbain, Hiya Wal  Alam, Tree9, Gultra Sound System, Old’9 School... He made his debut as a DJ in 2012 on the Tunisian webradio “Radyoon رديون”, where he podcasted under his rubric “Global Groove”. 

His remix of Abyedh is both cinematic and melodic and takes you on a dreamy journey throughout a patchwork of soft beats and vocals and lands you in a cosy atmosphere.

This duo from Peru are close to Nuri’s heart, and after sharing so many stages along the past years, it only made so much sense for them to work on this remix. Producers, DJs, and graphic designers Felipe Salmon and Rafael Pereira aka https://soundcloud.com/dengue explore and utilize rhythms from Latin, African, and Anglo culture, re-creating them in electronic form by mixing old and new, analog and digital, resulting in a unique, instantly identifiable sound accented by their striking hand-crafted visuals. Ranging from psychedelic cumbia to dub, from salsa to footwork, from tribal to techno, their sound and visual palette continue to evolve in concert and on recordings, adding more color, flavor, and texture to their heady and provocative mix.

Since turning in an Astral Plane Mix in early 2014, Chants has been a staple in our orbit, contributing a bonus track to our first compilation and going on to feature as our second signing ever. Carious Motion is the Madison resident's third EP for the label, comprised of four tracks that draw on clashing themes of decay and movement. 2016's The Zookeeper and 2017's Amethyst Dust set a template for in-your-face, percussion-focused club formations, but Carious Motion exceeds both in its intricacies, finely attuned samples and self-recorded drum loops that form a superstructure around each track's core ideas. Ballroom god tier MC BE3K features on opener "RED (Off My Chest)" while Crazylegs' Gage provides a remix of the same track. Carious Motion is out digitally on March 16.
