"Walking through the aisles of the flea markets of Derb Ghallef, in Casablanca, I came across a box of about a hundred 60s-70s popular music 45 rpm records. When I asked for the price, the old man said, "Those are garbage, you won't do anything with them, take them for 0.5 dirhams each." I didn't hesitate."

"His voice still echoes in my head, as if he had thrown me a challenge... while offending our heritage. Thus was born the addiction, going to Morocco to feel that part of me, talking with the elders of my family before their final departure, and collecting all the records I could before they disappeared... it was like saving a part of myself by playing with time."

Until then, I had only played some of these vinyl records at targeted events... but I wanted to do more, I wanted to merge with that part of my identity that I had materialized in these records."

It has been my therapy, and I can never thank that old man enough for unknowingly throwing me the challenge of meeting my own self... That's where the surprise solution was...
