In 1997 just outside of Washington D.C. "the brothers" Jose Vargas-Pacas and Matthew Vargas-Pacas envisioned sSsR8M (Shaman Soul Searching in a Room) as a means of communicating thankfulness, goodwill, and universal harmony through music, Scratch Paper Comics, and art.

During 2004 "the brothers" moved to The Dalles Oregon and established sSsR8M as a business and completed several successful projects including: Tribal Art, West Coast 1 and West Coast 2, sSsR8M, Smartstock, and Scratch Paper Comics Offense one through eleven.

Matthew describes his innovative style as "shroom art." The combination of digital photography and tribal influenced drawings make for some trippy images. Soul Quest a Shaman's Tool Kit was created as a shamanic healing aid. The artwork Matthew creates is something more than just trippy shroom art, it is a landscape to dream in.

Much to the delight of fans in 2007 sSsR8M rocked the underground Portland music scene with the album "Exile." When asked about his original lyrical style Jose responds, "Often times the verses are meditative trances where i preform shamanic healing on myself or I'm giving thanks and praying to the most high."

But where does a name like sSsR8M come from? When the brothers are asked about the origin of sSsR8M's unique moniker Matthew replies, "It's hard not to be ambiguous and at the same time avoid mentioning aliens, magic, the occult, spaceships, mushrooms, past lives, OMMP, pyramids, slavery, the illuminate, the second coming of Christ, globalization, nuclear war, the hidden agendas of public school curriculums, Armageddon, the mass media, prophets, and fast food so just look at our website www.sSsR8M.com and use your imagination.

In 2011 sSsR8M completed their second illustrated, colored, children's book entitled "Bear and Lion wake the dreaming dragon", and completed Scratch Paper Comics 43rd to 66th offense (on the net soon), more tribal art , and the musical album "Maturation of the Presence." 

Currently sSsR8M is working on the musical album "The Theme of The All", and our 3rd full length children's book, "Great, that sounds fun." Featuring Brother Bear of Bear and Lion. Also we are working on "Soul Quest, A Shaman's Tool Kit" and Converting our book into the iBook format.
