"Growing up in Bucharest, I was surrounded by strange objects from a haunting past I hadn’t experienced. I’m interested in the living archive, the accumulation of different bits and pieces and the re-imagining of the future through a sonic approach.
I’m a collector: some things I keep on my phone or hoard under my bed, some I find online and in other anonymous corners.
For this sound piece, I was inspired by my family’s cassette collection from the 80’s. I pictured going through a big pile of tapes of lost content and stories about expectation, transformation, grief, desire, absurdity. It’s a journey to meet spirits of the past and the future."

"I also added this drawing I made for some unknown reason the weeks I was working on the music. I had a ton of fun and discovered many things while working on this project."

Switzerland-based musician and visual artist Ana Bălan writes songs reminiscing ghosts from here and there. Influenced by 80’s alternative, 90's emo, shoegaze and noise pop, she writes experimental pop songs inspired by stories of love and grief. Her music is closely related to her practice of poetry, drawing and performance, building a melancholy universe of intimate confessions. Ana Bălan is signed to No Salad Records, releasing her first album in December 2023.
