SOMETIMEZ MIX

Inspired by some recent trips to Chicago's Smart Bar, this set is bass heavy. I wanted to play with drums of the diaspora, the timelessness of Black music, and the timeliness of House music. 

Another intimate evening of having friends in my home, celebrating each other in sweet conversation, and vibing to the music that has been keeping me warm while this Chicago winter settles in. We recorded this on a Friday night, the day before a birthday party I was booked to DJ at. A 2000s themed event, the vibe was going to be Top 40/Hip Hop heavy. Not really my style. But the birthday girl said I could make it my own. Juxtaposed with the poplar music of the era was the peak of Neo Soul and straight ahead R&B was in its bag! So I dove deep and found cuts that spoke to my house style. 

While this set is not what I played at that party (had to throw a bit more hip/hop & dance forward party vibes in), The Red Set is heavily informed by the 2000s era: Jill Scott, Beyonce, Tweet, Alicia, Omarion, & Keyshia to name a few. 

Some of my favorite blends to date on this DJ journey (and a few rough ones, I'm still learning!) Grab some wine and a friend, unwind, relax, maybe shake a little ass, maybe commune with the ancestors on this journey through a St.Sinclaire vibe.
