Best Of Mixes

When I first discovered Donato Dozzy’s early records around 2006, I was immediately captured by the warm and hypnotic feel of his music. From that moment on, I’ve been a big fan of Dozzy’s work, over the years, collecting more and more of his music - from the solo projects and remixes to his well-known collaborations with other great artists. At some point the idea occurred to me: why not paying homage to this great artist in form of a tribute mix? It took me quite a while to bring the idea into reality, but now here it is. During the process of selecting the tracks for the mix, I got the feeling I wanted to create something more geared toward home listening or a walk around the city with headphones. For this reason, I slowed things down a bit and kept the whole mix under 120 bpm.

As a co-curator and resident DJ of Patterns of Perception, Steve Duncan aims to always infuse a sense of vibrancy and diversity into the sonic palette of his sets and musical offerings. A focus on rhythm and narrative allows him to traverse a range of sounds and moods, and challenges him to continually dig and refine his musical vision.

With Patterns of Perception 42 - his second outing since the very first edition some two and half years ago - Steve has created a soundscape filled with slow grooves, rough textures and vibrant interjections. It seeks to bridge home listening and dancefloor sensibilities, with driving moments countered with contemplative experimental pieces.

Aimée Portioli, also known as Grand River(@grandriver), is a Dutch-Italian composer, poly-instrumentalist producer based in Berlin.
While mainly connected to the fields of electronic music and sound design, her compositions transcend these genres. Her work is known equally for her film scores as for her experimental and ambient projects. Influenced by classical minimal music Grand River’s work integrates a large variety of sound structures and symphonic calculations, often blurring the lines between traditional composition
and research-based modernism. Aimée also runs the record label One Instrument.

We were first introduced to Aimee's music by The Bunker NY recording artists Voices From The Lake, and got to meet her in Berlin and play after her brilliant warm up set at Tresor!

natural/electronic.system. are Antonio Giova and Valerio Gomez de Ayala, a dj/producer duo from Naples, Italy. Both inspired by electronic music since the end of the ’90s, they were later influenced by the florid Neapolitan house/techno scene and inspired by the foreign djs coming to perform in Naples clubs. Over the years they became keen on the old and modern sound coming from another Italian city, Rome, where they started connections with local musicians such as Donato Dozzy, Neel and others.
Antonio and Valerio have been a force within techno’s underground since 2004 when they decided to found the natural/electronic.system project, gaining respect through their much revered podcasts for cult websites such as mnml ssgs and Smoke Machine, as well as their international dj sets.
They have a real ability for building their sets, allowing the music to breathe and slowly develop. Their sound explores the deep, psychedelic potentialities of techno, tinged with experimental and dub sensibilities, their track selection is impeccable, as is the pacing of their sets.

A Sacred Geometry started his self-titled label in 2015 with the intention to create a symbiotic environment, involving sounds and artworks within their physical media.
Initially a duo, the musical project is now run by Nicolò Papini, following the path traced during these years. Dripping in resonance, A Sacred Geometry creates a mesmeric ambient reality sculpted by space and textures. Layers of ethereal melody and rhythmic pulsation enforce the importance of the atmosphere and dynamism going within his work.

After the release of three EPs and an album on the Sandwell District label in 2011 and the launch of her own Eaux imprint in 2012, productions out on Further Records, Stroboscopic Artifacts, Infrastructure New York and Khemia Records including collaborations with Bob Ostertag, Lucy, and others, Rrose has found a unique niche in the worldwide techno underground while remaining equally situated in the experimental and avant-garde artistic communities. Whether as a DJ, live performer, or producer, Rrose crafts sonic ecosystems with patience and attention to detail, allowing the music to unfold gradually while tapping into deep, uncharted recesses of both the mind and body.

STBL is the most accessible alias of noi, an artist close to sound art and experimentation even in his beginnings as producer. Thanks to this project, Jorge Ortiz de Pinedo gives shape to his personal vision of music in the last decades, hinting at clear influences: from ambient music to electro or acoustic IDM. 
Without giving notoriety to any of these concepts, noi tries to combine in a “non-restrictive” way (in terms of listening) the different interpretations that fit together in his personal and unique vision of what we could called just “electronic music”. Works as Suspended Animation [inrecs, 2010], Entropy (escala 2012) or Approaches to understanding nothing [plataforma-LTW, 2012] are a good example of the eclecticism of his different productions. 
Other projects, as noi, that he had taken through these years include pieces for installations, video art, radio, performances and theatre. He is also the co-director of escala netlabel (www.escalared.com), one of the most bustling digital platforms in the Spanish scene.
