Ink Dark Moon

John Clare was in love with nature - he saw all human relationships reflected there. Although I was born and raised in a big city (Birmingham) the pictures in his words feel like home - the song really jumped out at me from his poem.I loved playing all the instruments (piano, harp, accordion)and vocal - it was so fun layering everything up together.

Cân am y Piano

I was commissioned to write this for The Chainmaker's Festival..it celebrates the life of Mary Macarthur who got equal pay for the Cradley Chainmakers in 1910. Her story is amazing..one of the women workers who marched with her and went on strike aged 75 said "I finally got my rights as a woman today" I met the family of that woman after one of the festival performances. Her great great granddaughter showed me an old black and white photo - there she was! Real and being heard.

This was such nice work putting all the instruments together in the recording - they were all very happy to be on the same song I think

The harmonies in this song really helped me paint the feel of the piece -lots of 4ths and 7ths like shifting sands.
