As summer fades and the days get shorter, Souleance have been hard at work in the kitchen cooking up their new EP ‘Tartare’. The French production duo of Fulgeance (Ed Banger / Musique Large) and Soulist (What The Funk? / The P Show) have delivered another EP of surefire party starters, taking the sample-heavy template of previous releases, and adding a deeper disco-house edge to stunning effect.
The 8-track EP opens with ‘Hustle’ - a clear statement of intent from Souleance - the shuffling synth-heavy percussion signposting the slight shift in direction, but with it’s sights aimed firmly at the dance floor. The track also features regular video collaborator Emile Sacre on keys and vocoder, this time in his music production guise as VECT. Many of you will be familiar with ‘Secoue’ (released earlier this summer as a digital only single). The Kompa-influenced track has become a DJ's favourite over the festival season and is now finally available on vinyl. Elsewhere ‘Ratatouille’ starts in more conventional Souleance territory with an infectious horn-led break, before developing into a Giorgio Moroder-inspired disco stomper. Also of note is the elastic bassline- fuelled ‘I Got It’, which displays a lightness of touch and subtlety rarely seen in dance music. This more mature sound, fused with the DJ-friendly identity of earlier releases shows the progression the duo have made since their debut back in 2009.
The artwork that has been a feature of Souleance’s releases is present again, with Alice Dufay providing stunning illustration in her idiosyncratic style. The EP also features two remixes - Debruit remixes the title track, blending the Souleance sound and putting his unique stamp on it - in his own words ‘an imaginary place where ancient West Africa cohabits with 80’s New York’. Finally Dutch newcomer Uffe takes on ‘New York’, retwisting the keys to create an MPC-style house groove - the perfect conclusion to Souleance’s best EP yet.

Paris based producer Cvd releases his summer heat "Mr Fuego", kicking off his upcoming EP, which is due winter 2020 on MENACE.
Longtime MENACE collaborator, Cvd under his real name Charles Dollé is a french music producer and singer. Originally a guitarist, he worked two years as a student at the Groupe de Recherche Musicale (GRM) founded by Pierre Schaeffer, fascinated by electro-acoustic music.
Affiliated to the french label Tricatel, he remixed Bertrand Burgalat, Catastrophe, and Chassol. On stage, he gave various opening concerts for Isaac Delusion, Squarepusher, Submerse, Daisuke Tanabe and many more.

As accomplished producers, Session Victim have been intent on delivering a characteristic body of work for uninterrupted play. With ‘Needledrop’, Session Victim have landed with significant inspiration from the lavishly textured and subtly layered jazz and soul compositions that found their way into late 90’s trip hop. Fusing an array of live instrumentation and organic melody, ‘The Pain’ incorporates electronic touches whilst skillfully holding intact a chugging groove, bringing listeners on a hypnotic journey complimented by an echoed soothing vocal sample.

“‘The Pain’, which we wrote at Hauke’s place in Berlin, was one of the last tracks on the album to come together. Right from the start this one had a different vibe that we felt was an essential piece to the overall record, channelling something more serious and urgent but ultimately uplifting” – Session Victim

Directed by Peter Malla, the accompanying video offers a visual representation for the context of the track. Delivering an intimate and cinematic piece shot across London containing an ever-pressing theme and sense of perseverance, optimism and gaining strength through adversity and pain.

“The story follows an injured skateboarder as he struggles through the process of healing. Through his physical impairment, his other senses become heightened, bringing a strengthened awareness and grounding, highlighted in the garden scenes. What he gains from his experience, ultimately builds him into a stronger skateboarder, once he’s back on the board” - Peter Malla

German duo Hauke Freer and Matthias Reiling, are no strangers to releasing quality, long-format albums. Whilst riding through a discerning community of DJs, the pair have previously released three albums on tastemaker label ‘Delusions Of Grandeur’ culminating in 2017’s ‘Listen To Your heart’. 

‘Needledrop’ is their fourth studio album and is set for release on ‘Night Time Stories’, the London based sister label to the coveted ‘LateNightTales’. The release marks a notable shift towards the downtempo dynamic of fellow masters of the LP format, such as Nightmares on Wax and DJ Shadow, artists that have played a strong influence in Session Victim’s varied output over the last decade.
