Cacophony is by definition a collision of multiple sounds in discordance. Sounds that shouldn't go together basically. Bogotá, Colombia’s Felipe Gordon does this, but in euphony(bringing pleasure to ones ear)! Spreading himself blissfully across jazzy, disco, funky and soulful elements he pours this concoction into his cluby productions and sets which has now given him international recognition. Having put out forty plus 12" releases and an album since 2014, including his brilliant "Timeless EP" on our Karakul subsidiary, he has found himself on labels like Shall Not Fade, Razor'N'Tape, Toytonics and some of the most long standing greats more recently like Nervous records. For Phonica mix 104 Felipe walks us through what for him brings musicality into electronic music, what live elements bring humanity into our dance floors. Lost Control w/ Mark E & Black Eyes - April 2023

It’s fair to say that Kai Alce is an underrated artist. Not only does he turn out a consistent stream of tunes on top labels, but he also oversees NDATL Muzik, one of the most fawned over deep house labels out there. He has actually been active since 2002, and his heartfelt brand of house has always embodied elements of New York, Detroit and Chicago, as well as his Atalanta homeland. It sounds unmistakably alive and irresistibly soulful and has come on labels like FXHE, Mahogani Music and Finale Sessions. As a lynchpin of the Atlanta scene, he and his peers are only just starting to get some of the wider recognition they deserve. 

The mix he offers us here showcases his impeccable taste and takes in jazzy house styles, loose party jams and vocal groovers that are deliciously deep. Romantic and richly coloured, it’s a set for lovers of laidback grooves and proper musicality. Given the time of year, the whole thing seems to glow like Christmas lights on a festive winter night, so stick it on, warm up some mulled wine and get on down.

Michigan born Rick Wade might not get the headlines of his more celebrated Detroit peers, but few have done as much to contribute to the house canon as he. For nigh on two decades ‘big daddy Rick’ has consistently turned out deeply channeled grooves that need every second of their often elongated lengths to have best effect. Peppered only lightly with strings, the odd breathy voice or some other delicate hook culled from the funk and soul sounds around which he grew up, Wade’s style is the perfect embodiment of minimum effort, maximum impact.

A famously rapid and prolific producer who turns out hundreds of excellent tracks on a non stop basis, Wade is also the force behind legendary imprint Harmonie Park, which has released classics from peers like Mike Huckaby, amongst others. His own discography stretches to three pages and is a pure gold mine for house heads, with each track sounding as timeless as the next. In DJ terms Rick is just as assured, laying down sets that are tinged with funk and soul and keep you dancing in his long form grooves all night long. From Europe to the US, this true house legend has played every venue worth its salt.
