The first guest of the year is Torom. He was responsible for the first EP on RLO, "Lomarz", and went on to release the gorgeous "Oak Tones" with International Extraterrestrial Music in 2021. Enjoy an hour of his sneaky rhythms, sweet synth sounds and dubwise flourishes - all exclusive and unreleased.

A Night in the Skull Discotheque by the beloved underground selector CCL is the latest offering in the T4T LUV NRG label’s highly limited DJ mix series of cassettes. This immersive journey through a wonderland of proto-dubstep sounds from the late 1970s through the year 2000 is a sonic sibling to CCL’s acclaimed 2018 mix Ode to Queer Steppas.

Inspired in part by Eris Drew’s use of “old records to create new styles out of fragments” on her Raving Disco Breaks Vol. 1 mixtape (T4T LUV NRG, 2019), CCL approached this recording with a parallel frame of mind. Created with 3 CDJs, one Turntable, and a Boss Digital Delay 200, the tracks included in the mix are deconstructed from their whole, and constituent parts are intertwined, sampled, and dubbed out while being further stretched beyond their physical limits. CCL mixed many tracks at the 'wrong speed', pitched beyond their original recognizable tone; others are recontextualized through imaginative layering.

With a solid nod to seminal mixtapes of the early 90s, CCL references the namesake for Side A, Bass Is Eternal, an unreleased 1992 mixtape by influential Bristolian producers Smith & Mighty, an important sonic fulcrum amongst the musical tributaries of the hardcore continuum that continues to reverberate to this day. CCL experienced the after-effects of this ‘proto’ sound genesis in 2008, while living in Bristol, by which point its emergent whispers had coalesced into what became known as dubstep. Tracing a rich history of reference through the samples, basslines, moods, and drum patterns emanating from Bass Is Eternal while looking for connections that predate it became a long-term fascination for CCL. The result is a DJ mix that connects the oft-forgotten dots between proto eras and modern developments in bass and dubstep.

For the resulting sonic ride on A Night in the Skull Discotheque, CCL leads us to a fantastical place of timeless surreality – a majestic haunted dancehall soundtracked by a giddy rush of steppers and dubbed-out delights. Subs rattle through syncopated percs, and moody synths glisten in macabre glory. Fantastical dancers wriggle in wispy eternity, liberated from their corporeal forms in all their greatest spiritual wonder. Both extravagant and dusky, A Night in the Skull Discotheque is a world of seductive in-betweens, a place caught between the moodiest depths and the highest exuberance – A love letter to one of the most impactful formative sounds of the last decades.

Composer, producer, guitarist and vocalist ML Buch dazzles us with the latest Off-Kilter submission featuring previously unheard, unreleased music and an insight into the gentle makings of her latest album, Suntub. 

A dive into her sonic world and a glimpse of the songwriting processes, this hour long collage meanders through acapella and acoustic versions of existing tracks, sketches, ideas, loops, sound clips and other raw material. 

Blissful intimate pop-tinged electronic soundscapes; playful, glistening harmonies reverberating together, weaving and dissipating into air. It’s like the prequel to Subtub and sequel to the next album; the audio version of looking through an artist sketchbook. A reflection on where this journey began, where it is now and where, at some point, it may belong.

ML Buch is Marie Louise Buch, a Copenhagen-based composer, producer, guitarist and vocalist. Following the EP ‘Fleshy’ in 2017 she released her critically acclaimed debut album ‘Skinned’ on Danish imprint Anyines in 2020. ‘Suntub’ is her second full length release, a double album consisting of 15 tracks released in October 2023 on new label 15 love. 

In her compositional practice ML Buch sketches up her music in an almost architectural way. The raw material is generated through immersion in playing and assembling as a way of triggering random magic. Her live performances, both in solo and group formations, is reflective of her love of combining 7-string electric guitars in open tunings with synthetic instruments and electronic experiments.

The French DJ and producer Leiris (Minibar) steps up for the fourth installment of our Ponytales mix series.
Filled with dusty vinyl warmth and dubbed out accents, this mix spans sounds from catchy percussion rollers to grinned out acid basslines. 

Currently based in Berlin, Leiris first fell in love with minimal house and techno in the 90's with main influences Robert Hood, Daniel Bell & Melchior and over the past years he acquired a huge record collection ob top of his impressive mixing skills.
His DJ sets are known to be groovy, unexpected and full of musical treasures. Headlining on a festival or in a club and keeping it going on the after party, Leiris knows how to catch the crowd’s attention with his point on selection and continuous energy. He regularly plays at Club der Visionaere “official”& Hoppetosse, had gigs in other classic venues such as CONCRETE & Tresor.Berlin (OFFICIAL) and also performed at several festivals including Sonar OFF & ADE.

His releases are also steadily growing: the 'Procrastination EP' on Minibar-Music with his beloved friend and partner in crime Ben Vedren. Together they form a duo that plays live as 'Monkey Nenufar', with their first releases being on their own imprint Reduce Records as well as Cosmo Records and Discobar. Leiris' latest releases have landed on Ruis, The Rooted Series and Rotate.
