This concert, recorded April 19th 1972 in Albuquerque at the Tingley coliseum, was meant, in part, to be a warm up for the upcoming four sold out dates at Madison Garden in New York. Elvis’ intention was for the band to play a bit more loose and have some fun. They were hoping to capture a more relaxed mood for the live album. In the interest of achieving that, wine was served to the band during a mid-concert intermission. Unbeknownst to most of the members of the band the wine served was spiked with LSD. Teedy Turney a roadie and guitar tech, who had previously worked for the Grateful Dead, had picked up the homemade wine from a hippie commune out in the New Mexico desert. Elvis had been interested in doing a version of I’ll Take Romance ever since seeing Eydie Gorme perform it on the Seventh Allen show in 1957. He had also appeared on the Steve Allen show as well in 1957, around the last time he had appeared in New York City. The second half of the show got understandably odder and odder and the recorded version heard here was one of two songs preformed as an encore. Elvis allegedly requested I’ll Take Romance but “overwhelmed by the moment” he, reportedly, laid down on the stage and ate brownies. Only part of the full band came out. Elvis thought this recording was worth keeping anyway even though he had the rest of the concert’s recordings erased.

Narration: Verdandi is braiding the black and white strains, the dark and bright light. She wishes she would not know which words pass through her hands. There she sits, near the root of the tree that is the world, next to the spring. She is aware that she is alive and not-alive and she drinks from the well without feeling thirsty. She has been weaving for a long time and will continue weaving for a long time, braiding the black and white strains.

I love listening to & creating ambient, dark ambient, avant-garde & experimental electronica (and the occasional beatscape). I have no professional aspirations  - I just really like creating music / manipulating sounds. It's my way of relaxing after a hard day at the office. All my tracks are produced using monitoring headphones (Audix A140) so I recommend that you listen to my music through headphones. My DAW of choice is FL Studio. I also use Reason every now & then.
