To participate in the Haiku Music challenge::

- Make a song in response to the weekly assigned poem (a new poem is published every Wednesday)
- When choosing a title for your piece also include the assignment number, for example “Title of your track (naviarhaiku382)”

- If you’re a Soundcloud user, upload it on Soundcloud and send me the URL via private message, or tag me in the track.

haiku #564: Fog clears away: / the waterfall shows up / bit by bit.

This album was created by programming generative compositions, which were 'recorded' - and thus in fact made 'ungenerative' - and used as a starting point for this record (GS1, GS2, and GS3). Snapshots of generative music, one could say. Hence the title 'Generative Stills'. In between are two regular recordings (IN1 and IN2). method: dr 01s; voice; vst (bells'n'chimes); the cover image shows part of the 'ultimate distortion engine' consisting of one exciter module, one piezo pickup (pledging for mono today) and one slate plate (it could be any other more or less sonically transducive material, though, including shaped materials like springs, material with other material spread out on top, etc .... which renders this engine ultimately versatile, incl all the processes feasable during amplification, eqing and gainstaging); white tape pedal;  vst (balalaika): more voices and then some; several eqing instruments (including CS-5 compressor pedal)

Undoubtedly one of the most important Japanese novelists in modern history, Natsume Sōseki began his career publishing haiku and renku poems in a number of newspapers and periodicals. Early in his career he met Masaoka Shiki, who encouraged him to become a writer and tutored him in the art of composing haiku.

Between 1900 and 1903 he studied at the UCL in London, but this proved to be quite a dramatic experience for the young Soseki. Despite this, when Soseki returned to Japan, he exploded into prolific writing activity.

I put together three generative parts for this in Reason - using Monotone, Felt Instruments Lekko & Subtractor. I then moved over to Ableton Live and did some processing there - shifted each track slightly off-time by stretching. 

This original version of "Surfactant Is Cool" was submitted as part of Naviar Haiku 564, Fog clears Away…

I love listening to & creating ambient, dark ambient, avant-garde & experimental electronica (and the occasional beatscape). I have no professional aspirations  - I just really like creating music / manipulating sounds. It's my way of relaxing after a hard day at the office. All my tracks are produced using monitoring headphones (Audix A140) so I recommend that you listen to my music through headphones. My DAW of choice is FL Studio. I also use Reason every now & then. 


To the artists I follow; I do my best to try to listen to as many of your tracks as possible each night (I listen to each track all the way through - you went through the effort to create a track so you deserve to have it heard in full). If I miss a recent upload of yours, please forgive me...
