Description:

My OpenTheremin (Ref. [1] has been looking on and asking "play me". Also had in the back of my mind a possible future synthesiser purchase of a Soma Flux (Ref. [2]), which offers a fluid pitch control like the theremin. So switched on the OpenTheremin to let it warm up for a half an hour or so.

I wanted this to be a conversation between the theremin and my Soma Lyra 8 (Ref. [3]) analogue synthesiser.

The OpenTheremin is feed into the mono inlet of the Soma Lyra 8 ready to mix in with the Lyra 8 performance. The mono Lyra 8 audio was then passed through to the Soma COSMOS (Ref. [4]) for reverb and other looping shenanigans. This was then passed to my digital software based six track audio recorder. Two takes, no digital audio workstation (DAW).

The first take was a warm up, some bloopers, so had another go that evening for the final recording.

The theremin does command the attention of both of your hands to play it. The Lyra 8 does have some "Hold" knobs, so chords could be established and held in place, whilst I performed on the theremin. Additionally, themes could be recorded to the memory station of the Soma COSMOS, again freeing up my hands to get instruments ready for the next layer or theme.

When audio is feed into the Lyra 8, it also gets processed by it's dual delay+feedback and it's distortion circuitry. All three instruments were sitting next to each other, and fortunately no unwanted electromagnetic feed back to the theremin. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some coupling going on, but I just went along with the ride.

I love listening to & creating ambient, dark ambient, avant-garde & experimental electronica (and the occasional beatscape). I have no professional aspirations  - I just really like creating music / manipulating sounds. All my tracks are produced using monitoring headphones (Audix A140) so I recommend that you listen to my music through headphones. My DAW of choice is FL Studio. 

To the artists I follow; I do my best to try to listen to as many of your tracks as possible each night (I listen to each track all the way through - you went through the effort to create a track so you deserve to have it heard in full). If I miss a recent upload of yours, please forgive me...
