To participate in the Haiku Music challenge::

- Make a song in response to the weekly assigned poem (a new poem is published every Wednesday)
- When choosing a title for your piece also include the assignment number, for example “Title of your track (naviarhaiku382)”

- If you’re a Soundcloud user, upload it on Soundcloud and send me the URL via private message, or tag me in the track.
- If you upload your music on Youtube, Bandcamp or anywhere else, upload your submission and then send me the link by email at marco@naviarrecords.com or contact me on X, Facebook or Instagram

Miura Chora (1729-1780) was a Japanese poet from Toba (present-day Mie Prefecture). Early in his career, he came into contact with the Teimon School, and bonded with the great Yosa Buson. An admirer of Matsuo Bashō, he strived for a return to the simple tones and spirit of the latter's poetics, criticizing the vulgarization of haiku of his era and advocating the so-called "return" to a Bashō's style.

For this I used 3 instances of VCV Rack running Voxglitch ArpSeq within Ableton Live. In Live, I was running FL Studio with Sytrus loaded, Live's Wavetable and Arturia's Arp 2600. From about 23 minutes, I used this small section towards the end and did a bit of editing.

This original version of "So Glad To See You Again" was submitted as part of Naviar Haiku 571, Stillness.

So Glad To See You Again (naviarhaiku571)

A slow drone with a hint of melody coming through, using only the Terra. I layered two versions of this in Logic, subjecting each of the tracks to different effects and panning - mainly reverb based effects and Arturia's Motion. There is a bit of noise in the mix. At first I struggled to isolate it but then grew to like how it added a bit of grit and also triggered interesting pops and sparkles in the Zoia patch I was using in the initial mix. So, I'm going to consider it an aesthetic choice for now.

This week's Disquiet Junto challenged us to make a drone that is somehow melodic. My response is a drone haunted by a distant, distorted melody, which it follows in steps that are 21 seconds apart. 

All of the sounds on this track, including the percussion, were created on a vintage Korg M3R synthesizer and recorded live. The tracks were post-processed in Logic, mainly applying stereo delay for movement and the ChromaGlow plugin for color. 

I was probably more intentional about reverb in this track than I usually am, especially for a drone piece. My early mixes were drowning in reverb, so I dialed all the sends on all the tracks back to -∞ and brought the wet signal back in minimally and track-by-track. The only exception was the repeating high melodic figure, which I wanted to sound unnaturally distant.

I love listening to & creating ambient, dark ambient, avant-garde & experimental electronica (and the occasional beatscape). I have no professional aspirations  - I just really like creating music / manipulating sounds. It's my way of relaxing after a hard day at the office. All my tracks are produced using monitoring headphones (Audix A140) so I recommend that you listen to my music through headphones. My DAW of choice is FL Studio. I also use Reason every now & then.
