This set was played by Recid on May 7th at the Backyard opening weekend. 

Recid is a longtime resident of ∄ who needs no introduction. He has provided us with many unforgettable Backyard moments. This set, however, is extra special as it was played during the first Backyard weekend since the full-scale invasion.

Outset — is a new show available on our SoundCloud, which highlights the opening sets of the Community Events. 
Outset focuses on the initial performances that kick-off events, allowing one to experience and appreciate the music that sets the tone for the evening.

The first episode is a set from Backyard Opening 05.05.2024 by ecce lizard. It’s the multi-genre journey of varying intensities and weights that starts with ritual ambient and gradually evolves into a thoroughly executed exploration of rhythms, timbres, and moods from different cultures and eras. Fluid, yet consistent.


Ethereal and evolving soundscapes during the first hours of each Community Event, always a reason to come earlier.

«Цей мікс — моє бачення рідного міста, Києва, — пояснює Timkov. — Кожен трек передає емоцію та атмосферу певної події, яка відбулася або періодично повторюється в Києві. Темп цього міста — стрімкий: якщо ти тільки переїхав до столиці, він може здатися шаленим, а атмосфера — біполярною чи навіть шизофренічною. Я маю на увазі, що Київ — місто жорстких контрастів, особливо в часи війни. Це може лякати. Але подолання страху робить нас сильнішими».

‘This mix is my vision of my hometown, Kyiv, — Timkov explains. — Each track conveys the emotion and atmosphere of a particular event that took place — or keeps recurring — in Kyiv. The pace of this city is intense: if you’ve just moved to the capital, it may seem overwhelming, and the atmosphere — bipolar or even schizophrenic. What I mean is that Kyiv is a city of stark contrasts, especially in times of war. It can be frightening. But overcoming fear makes us stronger’.

∄ is a cultural institution in Kyiv, established in 2019 on the territory of a former brewery, located at 41 Kyrylivska Street. It serves as a multifunctional space for club events like ∄ Community Events, Curated By, Enareї, for experimental music concerts like Miasma of the Real and other cultural events.

∄ also manages the in-house music label Standard Deviation. Established in September 2020, Standard Deviation is a multidisciplinary label for music, art and publishing, cultivating creative exchange between an aspiring Ukrainian scene and a global community.

K41 is the community-born name of the institution embraced and widely used by the public.
