Louise Armstrong - Hello Dolly (Stas-Sax Radzievskiy Happy Drum'n Bass Remix)

This piece is a free improvisation over the interactive accompaniment performed by Pd. This accompaniment represents series of notes (chord), volumes of these notes form wave-like shape of the chord (soft to loud and then to soft). Pd tracks the pitch of the saxophone sound and averages this data within previous 2.5 seconds. This tool is linked with the chord and moves louder part of the chord up and down within the range of ten notes  of this chord. In this particular piece I used inverted dependence on the pitch. It creates a particularly interesting interaction, as higher notes of the saxophone move the chord to the lower register and vice versa.

Free improvisation of saxophone and drums over algorithmic accompaniment made in Pure Data. Saxophone effect is also made in Pd. Each delay emphasises various partials of the sax sound, mostly in randomised order. Sometimes it creates keys-like sound. Closer to the end of the track you can hear chorus from the Rihanna's song 'Please don't stop the music'.

StanisLove-sax and Deva Permana vs. Pd - Please Do Not

Classic Jazz Ballad by Charlie Haden.

This version has a standard jazz form: intro, the head, improvisations, the head and the ending. 

The effect (made in Pure Data) I applied to the saxophone represents series of the voltage controlled band-pass filters driven by pitch tracking tool. The program calculates and emphasises frequencies of different harmonics for every single note by multiplying the recognised frequency. There is an option to emphasise eight harmonics one by one, randomise the order and use average volume tool for the computer to decide which harmonics to emphasise depending on the volume (higher partials sound softer and computer may choose to associate frequencies of lower partials when playing loud). Also I enhanced the effect with the TAP tempo function and the possibility to control the feedback by dragging the curve with the computer mouse.  
For this tune I mainly used the setting when all harmonics are emphasised by order 1-8 and randomised order in the very beginning. It makes the saxophone sound different, compared to the situation when using conventional effects, and at the same time it sounds suitable for the jazz ballad style.

John Coltrane tune.

This interactive effect was made in Pure Data. Transposing effect was borrowed from the Pd Help Browser. The patch represents ten layers of transposed saxophone sounds by two octaves down, perfect fourth over octave down, octave down, perfect fourth down, two not transposed signals, perfect fifth up, octave up, perfect fifth over octave up and two octaves up. The patch forms the shape of the chord and reads the volumes similarly as it is done in the patch I used to record ‘Chord Thing’. But here the centre point of the chord is linked with the average volume (calculated within 2.5 seconds). Therefore, saxophone volume controls which transposing ‘track’ is louder and which one is softer. In this particular recording I used inverted dependence on the volume and the louder sound of the saxophone, the lower the saxophone chord moves.
