Mon Versnip

This mixtape is my tribute to David Lynch, blending music from his iconic soundtracks with tracks from my vinyl collection that capture the Lynchian vibe. Over the past two months, I’ve crafted a cinematic journey using a mix of dark jazz, braindance, speed metal, soul, 60's love ballads, drones, funk, and more—genres that all reflect the eerie and surreal world Lynch is known for. Inspired by his films and Twin Peaks, the mix takes you through haunting soundscapes and experimental moments, with a personal touch drawn from my daily walks through the forests of Brussels. It’s an unsettling, dreamlike ride that builds to a closing just like the way Lynch wrapped up Wild at Heart. If you’re ready for a sonic journey through the strange and mysterious, this one’s for you.

Stanny Franssen teams up with Ortin Cam for a wild roller-coaster ride and the boys show their intentions right off the bat with The Duck, where off-kilter percussion is joined by warped electronics and psychotic phrases, only to be topped off by crushed audio. Things are a bit more straightforward on Skint, which is based on what initially seems like regular chords. Then, of course, the affair takes a tricky turn into la-la land, but luckily the steamrolling rhythm section holds everything together with ease.

Soulfooled, lovingly curated since its inception in 2010 by the outstanding German producer & DJ, Alex Niggemann, has steadily established itself as a crucial platform for fresh talent. The label’s focus is always on sonic innovation and search- ing out unfailingly original musical gems, and, in the process, developing its own distinctive brand of music.
Alex Niggemann’s impressive A&R skills were once again highlighted when Dresden’s enigmatic Felkon, released his excellent, mind-bending debut track (“Creixell”) on last sum- mer’s “Soulfooled Cribs Vol.2 EP” (the second instalment of the exciting format that brings the ever-evolving Soulfooled family together). The resulting furore has now led to Felkon returning with a trio of absolutely stunning creations for his “Cry Wolf” EP.
The pulsating, infectiously percussive “Cry Wolf” opens pro- ceedings, layered with super-seductive ebbing and  owing melodic waves, and building towards a plateau of beauti- fully subtle, scarily spooky energy. Meanwhile, the equally engrossing “Eos” has its own distinct identity, pirouetting majestically around another masterclass of subtle, melodic, rhythmic beauty.
“Selene” expands the theme of melody within rhythm even further, with its gorgeous, heart-melting motifs. A wonderful hint of melancholic re ection, serves to create an atmosphere for the track that renders it in one’s subconscious way after its  nal notes have faded from the speakers.
As a teenager Felkon got his  rst experience of being on stage with “Die Pilger”, a fun punk band from his hometown of Dresden, Germany. After the band broke up in 2010, he took his  rst steps into the world of producing electronic music, a process that has evolved to now also playing live sets and DJ sets throughout Europe. Having previously released the “Sunset Stories EP” (Blossom Kollektiv) and the aforementioned “Creixell” (Soulfooled), his new “Cry Wolf” will surely mark Felkon out as major new talent to watch
out for throughout 2016 and beyond, proving what a great discovery he is.
With an ever-growing family of superb artists in their “crib” and stunning releases like this on the agenda, Soulfooled continues to grow into one of the  nest labels around.

@harvardbass drops a double dose on Twin Turbo with LOSE MY MIND.

Mexican-American bad-boy Victor ‘Harvard’ Bass has always brought together the raw appeal of American booty with the style and function of European Ass. His sound has earned him in-crew-sion in Seth’s Tuskegee / Big Titty Surprise posse, Green Velvet’s Relief, and of course Tiga's Turbo. With years of releases under his belt, he’s maintained an impressively consistent voice.

It all comes down to the fact that he is a bonafide sex addict who managed to turn a problem into a career by combining his obsession with thickness and his prowess for production. ‘Lose My Mind’ can be heard as Harvard Bass’ confession, his plea of insanity set to the sound of a perfectly functioning Ibiza super-club, complete with sexy paid dancers, industrial smoke cannons, and the kind of mass communal ego death that comes from 10+ straight hours of tech-house.

'Sky High' rushes into the main room with racing hats and a ghetto-ready bass line that builds ‘Cajually' alongside the repeating vocal hook ‘Baby gonna see me fly… tonight.’ When else we gonna see you, fly, man?

Two techno heavyweights have teamed up here for a new EP on Trapez. So we can look forward to some classy classic techno!

Stanny Franssen has written history and is mentioned often enough in the same breath with Marco Bailey, Gaetano Parisio, Danilo Vigorito and Samuel L Session whereas Ortin Cam has released successfully alongside Stanny and alone on some of the same labels in the past. 

Their EP can be describe as a post Detroit styled 3 track Ep.
"Return Of The Sun" is a moody track very uplifting and with a very gentle flow however powerfully reordered and crafted it can put more than a smile on your face. Indeed it is a strong mover timeless and perfect for the first sunny spells.

"Galaxy Crusadors" is based on a classic "Basic Channel chord" but then evolves and blends with sounds being added that contribute a playfulness and later on a strong Detroit feeling. We can see this strong cross over to please a lot of free minded techno people!

"3rd Moon From Jupiter" rounds up the EP. It is a hypnotic track with a slow build up that undergoes a transformation later in the course of the track with more percussive elements being inserted, making it even more attractive for the dancer.

Brussels-based duo return to Turbo backed by remixes from Warp legends The Black Dog.
 
Following on a massive year that saw them provide debut releases on new labels Valence and Exit Strategy, feature on Innervisions ‘Secret Weapons’ series, and remix electronic music pioneers The Black Dog and Black Devil Disco Club, it’s no wonder that the UK’s DJ Mag would pick them as ‘Ones To Watch In 2016’.  Fresh off a January release on Get Physical, @GoldFFinch’s Yoann and Giles turn in the aptly titled ‘Proliferation’ EP.
 
Highlighting the essence of their influences in jacking Chicago house, trippy Detroit techno, with a little bit of Sheffield bleep thrown in for good measure, ‘Proliferation’ is a versatile, understated club weapon, expertly building and releasing tension, raising energy levels without resorting to obvious rises or superfluous production tricks. ‘Shape’ adds the claps-on-kicks jack without losing the hypnotic vibe. ‘For Future Use’ nods to the chosen remixers, with synth lines that recall old-school Warp electronics.

The Black Dog bite back with two remixes,  v.1 harder edged, with more stern techno edges while v.2 rounds things out with a housier sound and an epic, end-of-the-night feeling.

Stanny was born on the first of November 1973 in Tongeren, and grew up in the tranquil countryside nearby. At the age of 12 he moved back to the city of Tongeren. As a single child he quickly learned to be independent, with scale models taking up much of his time and attention, but all that soon changed as music grew to become his biggest love. Thanks to the influence of his friends he became infactuated with electronic body music and new wave, both styles already drawing greatly from Eighties electronica (such as Front 242 and Nitzer EBB). The ‘Krapuul Deluxe’ radio show hosted by Luc Janssen on the Dutch station VPRO provided a further source of inspiration. The early Underground Resistance tracks that were programmed on the show were a revelation, helping him to develop a serious taste for Detroit techno. 

Around the age of 16 Stanny played his first party, mixing mainly acid techno sounds from influential imprints such as UR and +8. Infected by the electronic music virus he started even buying more records and frequently began thinking about making music for himself. In order to start producing his own tracks he took on weekend employment as a waiter in a club. With the money he earned from this job he then bought his first components of studio kit.

Following a period of experimentation and familiarisation with his equipment he sent out a number of demotapes to record companies. Big Time International, a record firm in Ghent, expressed great interest. The tracks needed a finishing touch, encouraging Stanny into the studio with Bart Grinnaert and Laos Mezarros. The project ‘Propionic’ on Reload was born, resulting in three subsequent releases : ‘XY Desolvation’ , ‘Immunochemical Epoxy’ and ‘Back-Feed’. 

Stanny invested further in equipment, driven by a desire to make tracks without the aid of others. A year of immersing himself in his new studio kit resulted in a few fresh tracks he was most satisfied with, and again Reload was happy to release them :  Cronical Re-Form was born.  Stanny was greatly encouraged by the response his music was now receiving, and embarked on a more intense phase of producing. Zzino, the former label manager of Reload, could not release all the tracks, leading to a new alliance with KK, who were more than eager to release Stanny’s material under the name ‘G F’. Under this guise Stanny unleashed two full albums : ‘Electronic Lesson 1’ & ‘EL2’, both receiving critical acclaim both in the international dance press and among his colleagues. Sven Väth took greatly to Stanny’s work, playing his ‘Obsession For The Unknow ep’ during his ultrashort set at the Siegesäule during Love Parade ’98, whilst ‘Electronic Lesson 1’ even reached the number one spot in Sven Väth’s chart.  

After such high exposure many others soon picked up on his unique skills, widening the road for the new contacts and deals followed. ‘Mystic Shape’ became Stanny’s moniker on the UK’s popular Primate imprint, and it was this release that triggered a profusion of international bookings. During one trip abroad he met the much revered Italian producer Marco Carola and the two instantly connected. Marco asked him to do some tracks resulting in ‘The Fifth Galaxy ep’ on both Zenit and Ante Zenit (Ltd).

Gaetano Parisio (aka Gaetek) got on the phone to Stanny soon after hearing his material over at Carola’s house. Subsequently the ‘Between The Lines ep’ came out on Conform at the end of 1998. Another massive release followed on the Intense label. The French imprint Kobayashi showed interest also, arranging the release of the ‘Oxidation ep’ (not forgetting the forthcoming ‘Calibration ep’ in September 2000).  Releases then followed on Zync, Skunkwork, Molecular and Countdown 2000 (May), together with another release on Primate.)

Stanny naturally started thinking about a label project of his own. In August 1999 plans were drawn out for GENETIC RECORDS, This year the label will reach it’s 20th release. People like Umek, Danillo Vigorito, Rino Cerrone, Manu Kenton, Davide Squillace, Boriqa Tribez and Stanny himself made this possible.

Around 2002 Stanny started to work more together with other artists, The first collaboration was together with Patrick Lindsey, resulting in “Bad Pimps”. Signed on Monika Kruse’s label they bring us a good combination between old skool funk and pumping techno beats.
The Second one he started with DJ Lowdown (aka Franssen vs Lowdown) and they got signed on the Intec label from Carl Cox and Dave Angels label Rotation bringing us more filtered techno tracks with housy influences.


Despite such a productive release schedule Stanny still found time to accept some of the numerous remix requests he receives. Henrik B, Danilo Vigorito, Rino Cerrone, Samuel L Session, Chris Liebing, Monika Kruse and Misstress Barbara are among the many distinguished producers who have come knocking on his door with remix requests.


In 2006 Stanny decided to take a step back. Mainly to think about the evolution in the scene and to find a way to recharge. Influenced by his good friend Patrick Lindsey he started to produce again in 2009. Three releases on Giraffe Sauvage were the result. Meanwhile Stanny did some colabs with Sören Aalberg and they are working on a new album. A new project with Ortin Cam will follow in the end of 2014.
Remix duties for labels as Stanch, Phobiq, Loose, Tarvisium electronique, Release, Respekt Recordings and many more. A new solo ep called ‘Multi-Vintages’ was released on De:Tuned  Februari 2014.
