Cherry is a song with a history that traces back to long before the creation of Starbeam. Picture this: it’s a Friday afternoon in summer in Madison in 2023. We have been playing together for about 4 months off and on with another group, Thrupple. As an “end of session” jam, we came up with the basis of a song, which had the working title “the dripping cone” — the name coming from what the music sounded like at the time: late July, sun setting, ice cream has completely melted because you’ve been locked in conversation since you got it. 

After some quality time checking in on the instrumental, forgetting about it, and finally coming to understand the scope of what this was, we morphed this wee beb into its final form, “Cherry”. 

We hope you like this song, because we made it for you.
