These are just some snippets of drum tracks for Ken Dunn’s album. Here are a few “faders up” examples, with a touch of EQ here and there and buss compression on one pass. We left it pretty raw so that you can hear the sounds.

StarBird HQ is the home and studio of Mark Mariash & Beth Hamilton located 2hrs NW of Toronto. It is nestled in 15 acres of wooded nature with Sugar Maple, Pines and Cedar. Here, we can enjoy the birds all day, and take in the stars at night. 

The StarBird complex consists of two geodesic domes joined by a connecting foyer, creating a harmonious place to both work and live. The studio is a 625sq ft geodesic dome attached to our main living dome. This Scandinavian inspired space is where we create, teach and record music. The large triangular skylights and walls of whitewash and Pine make for an airy and peaceful environment. 

The space is very conducive to tracking "live off the floor". Acoustics are full and rich sonically. The recording system is located on the tracking floor for ease of flow and communication. 

The studio has just acquired a vintage Yamaha U3 (1973) that is both mellow yet rich and its sound blooms beautifully. 

StarBird has a nice selection of recording gear that accommodates acoustic music of any genre. A detailed gear list can be sent on request, but the more basic components of our set up include a Midas analogue desk and assorted outboard mic pres and compressors, into a UA/ProTools 12 system. Our microphone selection includes a growing list of condensers, ribbons and dynamic including Josephson, Beyerdynamic and the "usual suspects" (AKG, Shure and Sennheiser). We are loving our new matched pair of 87se's and fet47ce, made by Dave and Scotty over at Advanced Audio Microphones.
