By the mid-’90s, while peak-time anthems dominated global dancefloors, Melbourne started developing its own dialect—a darker, more hypnotic sound rooted in restraint. At its core was a small community of DJs and producers, united by a shared refusal to chase trends.  The sound they conjured was haunting: progressive but with a sparse architecture which created ample space for atmosphere. Indeed, a Zero Tolerance track spilled across the dancefloor with the tension of a coming storm. Uncompromising, yet cerebral.

To supplement our deep dive with Gab Oliver (see link above for full feature), the label head compiled an exclusive mix filled with fresh label cuts released on the label since its 2021 relaunch.

Having played from London to San Francisco, Berlin to Burning Man, Darper brings the same storytelling sensibility to his Electric Fiction mix series and his immersive DJ sets. His releases span respected labels such as Anjunadeep, Culprit LA, Sound Avenue, Balance Music, and The Soundgarden, and he has featured alongside artists including Brian Eno, Matthew Dear, and Nick Warren.

On this Balance Selections, the producer delivers an organic touch that arrests attention. Featuring tracks from Fort Romeau, Rival Consoles, Luca Bachetti and more, this is a colourful journey documenting the deeper corners of progressive house.

Oniris found his calling in the mid-’90s club scene, where house and techno first took hold of him. Years of experimentation and self-taught production across far-flung islands like Mayotte and New Caledonia honed his melodic, emotive sound.

His breakthrough came when Laurent Garnier championed his tracks, propelling Oniris onto the global stage with a debut EP on Bedrock Records that cemented his place as one of France’s most compelling techno exports.

With his All Over Me EP on Balance Music, Oniris proved his knack for sculpting hypnotic, melody-driven house that resonates on both the dance floor and the heart.
