The spacecraft burst into the galaxy in a flash of light, exiting the lanes of hyperspace with the grandeur that intergalactic travel of that sort demanded. Made of advanced neometal alloys, its hull seemed to shimmer and glisten with an iridescent glow that warped and refracted the light of nearby stars around the craft. To the naked eye it appeared as though a mirage, and even the advanced sensors of many spacefaring empires would have trouble locating its exact position amidst the surrounding chromatic milieu.

Hailing from uncertain origins, its appearance was spoken of in hushed tones within the war rooms of this galaxy’s nations, for it was not known to be either friend or foe and bore no identifying insignia to mark its place of construction. The subspace pace it proceeded at was not rushed but yet bore a certain urgency, as though the ship stalked some unknown quarry from afar. No hails had been returned and no attempts to scan its interior had borne fruit, and thus on the planets below populations watched with anxious awe as it continued on whilst praying that it did not take specific notice of their lives. Thus it was that what could only be called the STARSHIP entered into galactic knowledge, and none yet knew where its course might lead.

DESPERSION debuts his devious first EATBRAIN release with the STARSHIP EP, which brings the label’s horde to intergalactic heights across the three tracks contained within. A rising star form Russia, DESPERSION’s prior releases have landed on labels including SLK Records, Empire Recordings, and Neuropunk Recordings, the latter being the imprint label of Eatbrain regulars Gydra & Teddy Killerz. Channeling the sonic energy gathered from these prior experiences, the STARSHIP EP shoots by at breakneck speed, overflowing with sci-fi textures and devastating bassline bombardments that follow the trend set by its name.

Hanzom welcomes Cranium back to the label for another big release! The drum & bass producer duo from Vienna (Austria) are no strangers to the neurofunk scene as they solidify their legacy with hard-hitting releases on labels such as Druid Records, Neonlight's Diascope, and more. This time, for their second full EP on Hanzom, Cranium has something special in store for us as we get taken on a journey through space and time by their aptly named "Astronauts EP".

"Space & Time" speaks to something inside of us that we all have in common; our curiosity and our fear of the unknown. The mysterious atmosphere perfectly depicts the feeling of realising how small and insignificant we as humans are in this vast universe.

‘Black Clouds’ begins with an ominous sounding intro, one which gradually pulls you into its immersive soundscape and rolls out the carpet among punching drums and rolling percussion. The tempo is suddenly switched and you’re drawn deeper into the mix, as it becomes more and more overpowering. The crescendo comes when the track explodes down its climatic drop and you’re left to be taken along for the ride. Each metallic swathe peddles you into the next; Ephyum isn’t afraid to go full-throttle and this becomes instantly clear with the track’s descent.

With this series of sample packs label owners Black Sun Empire want to make it easier for producers, both at beginner and advanced levels, to come closer to the sound that Blackout is known and respected for. Producing any kind of music is hard enough as it is, but perhaps this kind of drum’n’bass has over the years reached technical levels that are hard to achieve without a little help. Of course sample packs can be seen as an easy way to get a quick result, but we hope it will inspire people to push the envelope even further with the proper tools in hands. For this a proper understanding of what came before is needed and maybe a small glimpse of where things are headed. Up to you to look at both and shape yours and our future.

OPTICAL
When it comes to advanced sounds of drum’n’bass look no further than to the man who inspired more producers than any other in the short history of this genre. Together with Ed Rush he gave us countless classic records, most appeared on his own imprint ‘Virus Recordings’. His contribution to this pack is of huge value: not only to sound designers of tomorrow, but also to fans of his music in general. Hearing what new producers will do with this combination of massively familiar sounds and brand new funk is going to be so exciting!

STATE OF MIND
Straight from their studio in New Zealand come the freshest sounds you can instantly recognise as theirs. From rhythmically fast, with sounds that are both hard hitting and precise, to great musically inspiring riffs and loops.

COUNTERSTRIKE
Hailing from South Africa, but now residing in Prague. This producer had to be a part of this international line-up, because of his intense sound. It’s quite a balancing act he pulls off, always being somewhere between the hardest, no-compromise part of drum’n’bass to the funkier, more driving and never loosing eye of the music.

TELEKINESIS
These super talented producers from Slovenia have a certain sound that attracts most labels in this genre. From Eatbrain and Blackout to Viper and Bad Company. The sounds they created have more punch and energy than any other. These can be used in any modern bass-heavy production and will be great for any other as well.

Most people don’t think too much about their food. It’s understandable really, we humans as a species don’t like to think when we’re hungry. After all, that’s energy that could be spent chowing down on whatever happens to be put in front of us at the time. There’s something special about food and what it does to our brain, how happy it makes us to do such a simple thing as refueling our bodies. Everyone’s got their favorites, delectable delicacies of which they just can’t get enough. All of these preferences are all well and good, but I must confess that I consider them a bit inferior. I am of course a connoisseur for whom only the best will do, not only just for dinner but for lunch and breakfast too.

As far back as I can remember I’ve always craved new tastes, new flavors to excite my tongue and make my heartbeat race. As a child I loved the usual things like candy and dessert, but such simple things get old when you eat them all the time. Though I even ate my vegetables and found their flavours fine, my boredom with these basic tastes inched closer every day. I tried the foods of other countries, even haggis and its ilk, but still I was not satisfied with these tastes from far away. What I craved was something more, something viscerally exciting, a meal I could make myself without a recipe in writing. It needed to be bold in taste with complexity of texture, with the slightest hint of savagery and a pinch of salt for flavor. You see I’ve finally found it, a meal that I can savor, and its standing right before me exhibiting curious behavior. Now’s the best part, my favorite time of the day. Twelve o'clock on the dot, it’s LUNCHTIME. Won’t you stay?

REDPILL serves up a delicious new EP on EATBRAIN with the release of LUNCHTIME, following up the Call of the Warchief EP which started the year for him on the label. The five track EP features his uniquely horror infused sound in full, as well as a collaboration with neurofunk champion MERIKAN aptly entitled CHILDREN OF CHAOS, which rages upon the strength of its furious bassline and fast paced snares. The titular LUNCH TIME features monstrous vocal intoned with evil intent, whilst the syncopated rhythms of BOOM BOOM create explosive shockwaves as the EPs second track. AND THE HERO WILL FALL narrates a tragic epic with its grand arpeggios and harmonic bass and is followed by the aforementioned collaboration before FUSION synthesizes the disparate aspects of the EP within a single track. Placing singular focus on his sinister sound, LUNCHTIME shows REDPILL operating at peak performance.
