Wir starten das neue Jahr mit einem besonderen Projekt der Völkerverständigung. “Joined Forces” wird von Wahl-Dresdner Tobax initiiert und präsentiert und enthält acht Mal sorgfältig ausgesuchten Drum and Bass. Was die Herkunft der Tracks bzw. besser gesagt die der Artists angeht, so geben sich die Producer aus dem russischsprachigen Raum und die lokalen Protagonisten die Basslines in die Hand. Marschrichtung der Compilation ist hauptsächlich progressiver Neurofunk, der insbesondere von den russischen Buddies um TNTKLZ, Decrese (Weißrussland), Despersion und Tantrum.Today geliefert wird – letzteres Projekt war bereits für die Vorabsingle verantwortlich. Und auch Kurator Tobax gibt sich keine Blöße und steuert mit “Waldgeist” eine harsche Schwarte dazu. Miss Redflower und Hasky als lokale Vertreter schlagen etwas melodischere Töne an, ohne den Grundtenor des Samplers zu konterkarieren. Und auch Clusta als UTM-Records-Dauerbrenner ist mit im Bunde, der hier mit einer komplett runderneuerten Version seines Tracks “Accelerate” aufwartet.

Mit dieser Veröffentlichung haben wir uns mächtig ins Zeug gelegt und Tobax hat sich damit einen festen Platz innerhalb des neu formierten Label-Teams von UTM-Records gesichert.

We start the new year with a special project of international understanding. “Joined Forces” is initiated and presented by Dresden by choice inhabitant Tobax and contains eight carefully selected Drum and Bass songs.

As for the origin of the tracks, or rather that of the artists, the producers from the Russian-speaking countries and the local protagonists hand over the basslines to each other. The direction of the compilation is mainly progressive Neurofunk, which is supplied in particular by the Russian buddies around TNTKLZ, Decrese (Belarus), Despersion and Tantrum.Today – the latter project was already responsible for the pre-release. And curator Tobax does not show any weakness as well and adds a harsh rind with “Waldgeist”. Miss Redflower and Hasky as local representatives strike somewhat more melodic tones without contradicting the basic tenor of the sampler. And Clusta, a continuous burner from UTM Records, is also in the league, who comes up with a completely redesigned version of his track “Accelerate”.

We worked intensely for this release and thereby Tobax has secured a permanent place within the newly formed label team of UTM-Records.

MINDSCAPE brings his unique and fierce take on d&b back to his home label with REANIMATOR CHAPTER ONE on EATBRAIN, the first part of a series of 3 EPs, that culminate in the REANIMATOR LP. As one of the imprint’s most recognisable figureheads, Mindscape deftly demonstrates why that’s the case with the 4 tracks within delivering distinct and succinctly powerful ideas to the table. MANBEARPIG carries a swagger dripping with pure and deliberately paced attitude, whilst SHUT DOWN (feat. COPPA) rides on a fast-moving bassline and percussive flurry. FIEND OR FOE executes an effective low-key roller laced with a sinister and restrained edge and DEEP VOID carries the menace of HIJAK’s vocal with exceptional effectiveness.

The absolutely huge feat which is Maztek’s forthcoming LP is finally upon us. ‘Warpath’ was rumoured since the drum & bass veteran dropped his first single, a collaboration with Aeph, on his newly created 0101 imprint, which signified a brand new creative endeavour for an artist who’s spent years crafting himself into the genre’s history.
And it’ll be yet another defining output for one of neuro’s pioneers, who’s already paved his way with a number of releases and will continue to do so with the calibre of music showcased throughout ‘Warpath’s track listing.

‘Warpath’ presents Maztek journeying back to his musical roots, whilst he brings through a host of talented artists to collaborate and feature on an epically diverse selection of records. Three years of ideas, work and struggle, ‘Warpath’ is a concoction of both old school and new school, drawing out its hip hop, reggae and drum & bass roots with a passion that modern neurofunk has afforded him. His aim was to bring back the same vibes which got him hooked on the genre, but give them a more contemporary twist, with some tracks purposefully sounding more electronic or acoustic. It’s the acoustic snares and drums prevalent across the album which help translate Maztek’s music into a live setting, which is the reason why his cuts are so devastating on the dancefloor.

First track, Maztek and Redpill’s ‘Electronic Warfare’, sets a standard, slicing deep with every stab of sonic disturbance. Next up, ‘The Dirt’ has already made the rounds alongside his other featured collaboration with Aeph ‘Trajectory’, with both tracks having already caused carnage on dancefloors since they were unmasked earlier this year, with Aeph appearing again to obliterate more speakers alongside ‘What You Got’. Maztek’s standalone delivery ‘Cheeky Dub’ helps to encapsulate the LP’s ethos, a return to the true sound which runs through the heart of all his productions. Notorious frontmen and women like MC Mota, Pendulum’s Ben Verse, Virus Syndicate, Nuklear MC and Miss Trouble also add their vocal crooning into the mix, adding perfect swathes of cool throughout the album’s offerings. Maztek & Gridlok’s ‘Gladiators’ makes a reappearance, yet another heavyweight merging of minds. Tracks like ‘Pandamonium’, ‘Bass Drop’, ‘Back to the Jungle’, ‘Come Closer’ and ‘Timeless’ further highlight the unbridled diversity of Maztek, even within the darker constraints of drum & bass. And this is one reason why ‘Warpath’ will hold up against the test of time, alongside the legacy of an artist who’s been able to draw from an intimidating array of artists for his biggest work of art to date.

Here was something wrong with his latest creation. It sat very still, staring with tense eyes at him in silence as he leant over the altar of his work. His instruments glinted with the reflected gold of the candle flames that lit his space, the cradle of life where he replanted embers of consciousness in the infertile grounds of the dead. Up until now they had stirred into reality with the confused motion of limbs, eyes rolling and hands moving desperately along the cracks of the floor and the edges of the doorway, seeking fervently a way out. But this one was different – her eyes had snapped sharply open, she sat upright, and since that moment her stillness tainted the room with a quiet malice. Her eyes followed him as he moved, inspecting his work beyond an arm’s length. The black pits of her pupils like twin gravity wells, cold tendrils reaching out and compelling him closer as though death’s hand brushed the back of his neck and whispered timeless truths with a whisper into his ear. He drew back, looking down at the dark blood on his hands as her eyes flicked over them. Reaching behind him, he grasped his chair, sitting down slowly, his legs trembling slightly before buckling beneath his weight. The oppression of her stare bore down upon him.

The relentless shuffle of MINDSCAPE's deadly REANIMATOR LP continues, as the ultimate power of Chapter II is unleashed on the EATBRAIN listener base. Bringing the next 4 tracks of what's turning out to be one of neurofunk's most solid albums, Mindscape's veteran experience shines through on each of the cuts, with his awareness of where the frontier of the genre lies sharpening the blades of his beautifully frenetic assault. The REANIMATOR sat frozen in his chair, held spellbound by the stygian gaze of his newest creation. Within the onyx depths of her eyes there was something new, something different, a quality not present in his other works. As she began to rise, he studied her movements with a mix of pride and abject terror. Before him stood his greatest creation, a life truly brought back from beyond that most final veil. She did not lurch with the brutish inhumanity of her predecessors, but rather her movements flowed with a equally inhuman grace that transcended her monstrous form. Her pallid skin and jet black hair projected an aura of unnatural beauty, taboo and forbidden by nature of her construction, yet still undeniable in its existence. Though she did not speak, there was an intent within her gaze. It was cold & alien, dipping into the edge of human comprehension but not truly existing within it. It was this aspect that set the fear surging within him. His other creations had by comparison been parodies of life, their animalistic wants and desires well within his ability to control. It was clear this was no longer the case. The meeting of their gaze created a palpable tension, a physical collision of analogous thought. The pair regarded each other as duelists, testing, probing, each searching for a moment of weakness hidden beneath the blank demeanor of their foe. Slowly, the REANIMATOR began to regain his strength, rising from his chair with newfound courage. This courage dissolved once more as he watched his creation rise in mimicry, his own movements mirrored upon her body like a marionette but for one difference. A wry grin spread slowly across her lips, illuminating that this was not merely mimicry, but mockery instead. The REANIMATOR took one step back, then another, before finally flinging himself towards his tools, fanatically searching amongst them for any that would offer salvation from the eldritch horror he had created. He turned, lashing out with a scalpel held in his trembling hand. The blade bit into the cheek of his creation as he marred her uncanny beauty in an admission of his own failure. For a brief moment, the REANIMATOR saw something new within her onyx eyes, a pain wrought by the betrayal of he who had given her a simulacrum of life. He faltered in momentary regret, empathetic of the pain which he had inflicted until he too felt a pain upon himself. Gone from his hand was the means of his betrayal, and upon his coat there lay a stain. Across his neck, a gash spread slowly, just as his creation’s grin had moments before. This time however, the slow spread of such a line was indicative not of the budding existence of a life but of the creeping end of one. His strength faltering, the REANIMATOR looked once more into the eyes of his creation. Gone was the look of pained betrayal, replaced once more by that cold & inhuman gaze. Delivered by the hand of his own work to the level of the clay from which he wrought his creations, the REANIMATOR fell to the ground with finality.

One of tech-injected dnb’s greatest hero’s – MINDSCAPE – unleashes the limitless power of the 3rd EP – THE REANIMATOR PT.III – from his fourth full-length studio album – THE REANIMATOR LP – on the by now ravenous and vast pack of the EATBRAIN audience.
