Now in its 200th instalment, this Podcast has given voice to a diverse offering of global talents across the musical spectrum, from the democratic rhythms of zeitgeist appropriate techno and house through to more avant-garde synthwork.

This next guest has cast a large shadow over the technosphere, so large in fact, that no introduction could fully encompass the breadth of his achievements. But in brief: Ben Klock is a titan whose formative years were spent playing marathon mixes to the crowds at Berlin’s (then recently opened) Berghain. Off the back of his endurance sets and the club’s success he became a household name whose influence grew to be felt across the world, with a body of work that includes appearances at an exhaustive list of clubs and festivals, a number of hot releases on Ostgut Ton and an equally respected self-run label (Klockworks) to boot. On this second imprint, his own productions have repeatedly seen the light of day, alongside those from the likes of DVS1, Sterac, Stef Mendesidis and younger talents like Temudo and Vil & Cravo. The sound, ubiquitous as it is, will be familiar to anyone involved in the world of electronic music and there’s good reason for that: Klock’s deep and percussive work and ability to pull from a wide range of influences have earmarked him as a unique agent for the techno cause. Atmospheric and delivered with hammering force, Klock’s refined palette for rhythms is as relevant now as ever. Iraqi by blood/Oaklander by upbringing, Lolsnake is a Berlin-based visual artist and DJ whose fulminating sets have taken centre-stage at some of the city’s most vaunted hangouts. It was studying neuroscience that took them from California to the UK, and there that they first discovered a taste of the creative freedom that club culture could offer. In 2014 they made the switch to the German capital, where a chance opportunity to throw a party at makeshift Neukölln locale Internet Explorer kickstarted a spate of FLINTA-focused parties that eventually landed them regular gigs at Tresor’s proxy venue OHM. From there the scope grew and both spoken word/performance art series queeeirdos and the later iterations of dance-geared and Säule-based party programme Weeeirdos took flight. An assemblage of creative disciplines and artists from visual art to comedy to VTSS to Ellen Allien, Parrish Smith and Schacke, the format has been a breeding ground for ideas and sounds, first in Berlin and now farther afield in cities like Prague and Copenhagen. As for their own output as in-demand selector, it’s fiery, arrow quick techno, a coup de foudre from the heart that takes no prisoners, be that at De School, Blitz or Transcendence Seoul. Unsurprisingly there’s a music label in the works, and this next instalment to whet your appetite while you wait. Bassiani Podcast 223 is a heady three-hour mix recorded live at the club back in June. Galloping beats bent on worldwide acclaim, tenacious and razor-sharp techno from a singular and fast-rising musical talent.

Right on cue to support the release of his newest EP on SK_eleven, here comes Manchester via Berlin's own Setaoc Mass with a banger of a mix to break June in proper, pedal to the metal. Exponent of a sound both intrinsically rugged yet layered to mind-altering effect, the British producer has been dishing out unstoppable slices of hi-velocity techno laced with a signature stripped-back, psychedelic edge. This new RYC podcast doesn’t veer off from such a direction and we’re graced with a two-hour mind trip boasting both bass-driven warehouse impact and an elegantly-woven tapestry of abrasive grooves, leaning by turn towards atmospheric elation and on other occasions pushing in the direction of utter fibrous, steel-coated industrial pound. The result is a wilder than wild ride down a smouldering pit of acid-washed hard hitters. Brutal.
