Episode 22 is here, and today we present Hamada, a well known figure in Malmö’s underground scene, now based in Stockholm. One of the driving forces in Solstice and former Club X. His passion for the music and the culture behind it is what drives him to keep the scene alive and thriving. When Hamada is behind the decks he takes you on a journey through the deepest techno sphere.

Interview with Hamada: 


Q: What made you start DJing?
A: I was mixing CDs for pure fun in my early teenage while at the same time dedicating most of my free time to studying guitar.
Like the old way CDs were made as a journey, the same way I enjoy electronic music sets.
As my interest for electronic music grew, as did my interest in the artform behind it. By 2009, I began mixing trance using Online DJ, which eventually led me to discover techno.

Q: Describe your style in three words.
A: Deep Rhythmic Journey

Q: Your best set in 2023/2024?
A: A tie between Bellum Zona in Göteborg and my bday bash at Anomali in Malmö.

Q: Your favorite track right now?
A: Retro Futuro III - Linear System

Malmö Techno Tales Episode 22 - Hamada

The 90’s rave scene embodied a sense of freedom, defiance, energy, and diversity. Konvic’s track, ‘Dove Days’ celebrated that with a hard techno edge and spoken vocals by DeepDownDirty label boss and founder Maya Stone.

Fast forward seven years from the release of ‘Dove Days’ (and as DeepDownDirty fast approaches its tenth year of existence) and Konvic has put together a full album’s worth of eclectic new music to complement the original track, bringing it bang up-to-date with hiphop-edged techno in ‘Escape Key’ featuring Melee; a drum and bass duo of tracks in ‘We Need Love' & ‘Aura’, which both feature TiaSun; and 'Gaia’, with its hard neuro-influenced riff.

Amongst the techno you can also find the bouncy ‘Moroccon Nights’, with its North African-influenced vibe; an acid techno collaboration with Alf E James, ‘Rhythm is in my Mind’; the pulsating groove of ‘Dance’, the third track to feature TiaSun; the vibrant chords of ‘Keep Walking By’; the underground feel of ‘Exit Light'; and the subversive ‘Don’t Be Afraid’, a collaboration with Coqui.

This is music that celebrates the liberating, hedonistic 90’s rave scene with a futuristic edge. Its euphoric, rebellious and wild. It embodies great dance music in its all its glorious variety across the eleven tracks. As Maya says on ‘Dove Days’, “It didn’t matter who you were or what you did, we were united by the music,”.

'Dove Days’ the LP stands as a reminder and testament of how true that still is.

A Singaporean by birth and residence, Xhin is best described as a sound futurist. His rhythmic structure and compositional techniques which incorporate elements of techno, tight sub bass, ambient and IDM delivers a hint of chaotic soundscape amidst artistry. Xhin has been crafting ominous cuts of cutting-edge electronic music since 1997. In 2003, He independently released "Xycle", a self-promotional ep that made the industry to stand up to take notice. He then followed with his debut album, "Supersonicstate" the following year. In 2006, his talent was discovered by a German independent record label Meerestief. Also Xhin has become an important face for Lucy's famous Stroboscopic Artefacts with the artist like Perc, Milton Breadly, Inigo Kennedy, Rrose. On this label, he released his most experimental stuff to date, such as Sword, Fixing The Error, Monad III. Xhin is also a member of Token Records' family where he released 2 EP, The Realm and Dark Tiled Landscape.

This mix for Bassiani Podcast does a wonderful job of peeling back the curtains on Xhin's influences. Moving from a shadowy, mood-setting introduction, the first part of this mind blowing set offers an authentic techno records. Then he covers a big range of styles here, from ambient techno to experimental music and futuristic sound, and he continues to explore some disco jams in the middle of this set, that makes this mix absolutely unique. Among the gems are "Master Jack" from Robert Hood, Rennie Foster's "Good Time Charlie" and Hamilton Bohannon's classic from 1978, "Lets Start A Dance".
