Ben Rolo 'Happy Go Lucky' [Bay 6 Recordings]

After a string of high-profile releases on Low Down Deep, Liondub and many more, Bournemouth based producer Vital returns once again to the authentically underground label, Murky Digital with Hide & Seek. His first release on the label since 2020's Termin8, Vital showcases several influences, but one thing remains: the five tracks here are designed to wreck speakers, make the body move and cause maximum dancefloor carnage.
Title track 'Hide & Seek' opens the EP. Here, tormenting twin bass patterns unload over firm drum lines. Both lathered with grumbling distortion: one bass line sweeps across the speakers; the other hits with precise jabs like a professional boxer.
'Progression Lessons' kicks off with hyper speed breaks and pitched down vocals. This gives way to a sinewy bass pattern that modulates atop steely percussion and pad arrangements, the latter ominous as they phase in and out of the track.
Rumbling low-end patterns gives 'Cross The Line' deep rolling speaker power, and a sizzling-hot lead riff rings out next to cybernetic samples. 'Scared' is the EP's penultimate track, featuring spurts of aggressive bass and heavy percussion.
'Desert Storm' closes Hide & Seek. Vital's drum lines burrow into the brain's furthest corners while echo-drenched synths and pummelling breaks give the tune a dark atmosphere. It plays out like an end of the world soundtrack, the last dance before the final stand.
Hide & Seek releases exclusively to Juno Download & Spotify 10th May, arriving to all digital platforms on 17th May. One of the sickest projects to come from the badman producer!

DJ Hybrid and friends present a swift roundhouse to the back of the neck with ‘Battle Skillz’, a full on attack to the nervous system delivered by Serial Killaz.

Immerse yourself in frontal assault as the title track delivers 50,000 watts of damage. The simplistic breakbeat combination synchronises effortlessly with gnarly bass notes, reloading glocks and rough and tough vocal snippets. Steppas rejoice as this is exactly what you have been waiting for!

Hybrid links with Replicant for ‘Tell You’ - a tonal affair of bass reverb, dreamy pads and elements of ‘94 jungle that wasn’t be a miss at your local warehouse rave. Battling with sleep deprivation is certainly a cause for concern and ‘Insomnia’ drives these issues home by way of a ton of sonic twists and turns, bassline risers and sneaky breakbeats.

Altering your sense of direction in the form of ‘Push’. An off key, out of step beast that would certainly fit with the original 3 beat style. Experimental to the core and a tough beast to tame. ‘Watch This’ delivers a special treat in the form of real low end sub bass carefully wrapped around Serial Killaz style vocal stabs, delay soaked keys and Bristol influenced beats.

My Selecta finishes off the battle alongside DJ Hybrid for a final round of trap influenced snare hits that will no doubt cause an influx of head nodding, side shaking and brain vibrating motions. It’s pitch bent low end provided an additional blow to the skull. Finish him.
