When Cloudy asked me to join Cemetery Drive in 2018, I was living in a basement making music day after day by myself. I’d never really talked to the other band members besides Cloudy but our first song came together easily and organically. Deadzone was of its time and fans immediately loved it. From the start, Cem Drive had a sound, a style, a fanbase, and direction. It was a cohesive, international mosaic of different individuals and influences.

Over the years, the band members became my brothers. We met as a band every Sunday on Discord. We flew to LA to perform in the summer of 2019 and again in 2022. We recorded an album in Maryland and much of Chapter 4 in the UK. We played games on Discord and laughed and made art.

COVID was a challenge that no one was ready for, including an international band of nine members just coming into its own and excited to meet in person more regularly. We recorded our debut album in the summer of 2022 when it was safe to meet. We made the best of the situation. But the isolation that brought us together morphed into an enduring challenge we weren’t fully equipped to grow out of.

Our fanbase always connected to the style of our music and to the emotion behind it. They flew thousands of miles to attend our shows. Some got tattoos of the band or told us about how Cem Drive changed their life. People who liked Cem Drive loved Cem Drive.

Everyone has a band they listened to in their formative years that holds a special place in their heart or helped them get through a challenging time. The fact that Cem Drive was that band for a significant number of people isn’t lost on me. Music was my reprieve from severe mental health issues time and time again in my late teens and early adulthood. I make music to pass forward the help I received. I’ll forever be grateful we achieved that as a group.

Cemetery Drive are a product of the Internet Age. Founded in 2018, the international group combines the high energy and in-your-face attitude of punk rock with the rhythm and style of hip-hop music.
 
Taking inspiration from the early 2000s alternative rock group, My Chemical Romance, founder Cloud Mac named the group Cemetery Drive after a song off of Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge.
 
Most of Cemetery Drive’s members met online, playing video games and interacting in a niche music community on Twitter and SoundCloud. From the streets of São Paulo to the busy roads of Rome, from inner-city Detroit, to the idyllic countryside’s of the United Kingdom, Cemetery Drive boast an extremely diverse roster. They all faced unique issues, but one, common amongst them all, and most crucial to their formation, was isolation. Being apart was what brought them together.
