Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. I can't really separate who I am as a dj from who I am as a person, so:
On my bad days: a loner and disturbed eccentric, alienated and alienating
On better days: untameable free spirit; subscriber to the forever child archetype

Q. How long have you been a part of the NYC music scene?
A. Going on a decade now! I can only hope that when all is said and done, I will have given back at least half as much as it's given to me.

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. This mix is inspired by two experiences: psychedelic walks through Green-Wood Cemetery, and reading about/listening to Andrew Weatherall. They’re united within me, indelibly lodged in the same part of my heart/brain, and mediated through my favorite mode of expression: the dj mix. Similarly, this mix contains two distinct halves that hopefully by the end make sense together as two chapters of the same story.

Source material for this mix is pulled from Andrew Weatherall’s many mixes, production aliases, and record labels; but also songs that I've found on my own that have no connection to AW but still fit the vibe, along with songs connected to recent experiences of auditory hallucinations in the cemetery and biking home on 5th Avenue, depleted but euphoric in the mist. These hallucinations are based on memories of other times I tapped into something greater than myself amongst others (such as dancing the entire length of Powder’s closing set at Sustain Release 2019, if you need an example).

I’m grateful for these two experiences that kept the joy and meaning of life alive within me during an otherwise horrendous pandemic year.

Made with the tripper’s ear, head and heart in mind, there’s subtle and not-so-subtle nods to one’s ideal state while listening to this mix : )

Q. How would you describe yourself?

Brandon: Light hearted, reserved and a deep thinker. 

Craig: Crazy, sexy, cool. 

Q. How long have you been a part of the NY music scene?

B: I’ve been a part of the scene since I was a teenager, well before I was legally allowed to be in a night club. I’m still discovering so much about our music scene; we have such a rich history. 

C: We’re both born and raised here so it’s like we’ve always been part of this scene. In and out of record shops pre-teenage years and sneaking into the clubs by 16/17. 

B: I also feel so fortunate for the community here in NYC. There really aren’t any other states in the U.S. that have a scene as vibrant and thriving as ours!

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.

B: We took a spontaneous approach when we recorded the mix. Craig would play a record,  and I would feed off of that energy when deciding what to play next. It’s similar to how we play live. Nothings’ rehearsed and the music selection is unconstrained. 

C: The mix is a good example of some of the sounds you may hear at the party we throw. Hour long sets can be tricky to encapsulate the entire mood in such a short time, but we try our best to let the mix sonically speak for itself.

The album is a relic of three sessions that were created next to or in bed. A small case equipped with a looper, an EQ, a chorus and a delay is the basis. Each track is unique due to the different sound devices used, whether it is a synthesizer, microphone or tablet.

Searching for the mood of the moment, even if the next moment can be completely different, if not even should. A field recorder is an infinite tool for capturing these moments.

Also, these songs are indeed infinite. In the sense of a spiral-shaped interplay of musical influences, states of the moment, errors and coincidences, almost like the magnetic tape of a MC. Fortunately, the acoustic proof of this creative process is now available on an appropriate sound carrier. Expect swirling excursions into brightly illuminated Ambient territories, Lo-fi beat adventures in the outskirts of hidden rave countries and inverted Hip-Hop-experiments from the parking lots of long forgotten shopping centers.

“Das unendliche Konstrukt” translates into “The Infinite Construct". And that is what this tape here truly is. Constructs are facts that are intellectually claimed but not directly tangible. The same can be said about the music that @jacob-stoy made in 2020 instead of writing Corona diaries. This is music that must be felt. But if you try to grasp it only with your mental powers, it will slip through your fingers.
