Meet illus1on/Pavol, a talented Techno Producer & DJ based in the UK, originally Slovakia.

Pavol’s passion for electronic music started at a young age, listening to the sounds of the underground club scene in his hometown of Poprad. His love for the raw energy and hypnotic rhythms of techno music only grew as he began experimenting with music production in his teenage years.

After moving to the UK Pavol bang honing his skills in his home studio, and began to share his music with the world releasing his tracks on various underground techno labels. His unique sound, which blends elements of classic techno with contemporary and darker European techno has been well received in the Uk’s underground scenes.

Pavol’s dedication to his craft and his unwavering commitment to the underground techno scene has opened new doors to the DJ and Producer communities allowing for more gigs, collaborations, and remixes.

Pavol explores new sounds for techno because he finds the idea generation and creative process the most fun part about being techno producer and DJ.  He is very aware that Techno is always evolving, and the importance of staying current and relevant while also maintaining the essence of the music that he loves.

Furthermore, Pavol’s exploration of new sounds is also driven by his desire to challenge himself creatively and break new ground in the genre. 

By taking risks and experimenting with unconventional sounds and production techniques, Pavol is able to expand the boundaries of techno and create music that is truly innovative and groundbreaking.

Pavol’s sound is distinctive for several reasons. First and foremost, he has a unique approach to blending the classic elements of  Techno with contemporary European dark peak techno, creating a sound that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking. This fusion of styles gives his music a timeless quality that is both familiar and fresh at the same time.

Additionally, Pavol’s music often features intricate rhythms and complex layers of sound that create a hypnotic and immersive listening experience. He uses a variety of analog and digital synthesizers, drum machines, and other production tools to create a rich, textural sound that is unmistakably his own.

The Budapest based techno duo, SveTec & Nils, has taken a long journey until their current alias as Steam Shape. Both of them coming from a musical background, they turned from the piano to the decks quite early in 2003. Their obsession to the electronic music scene was increasing from the first time as they experienced its true spirit.

They started their joint venture in the year 2005, when they decided to launch an event series, which would give them the possibility to express their musical vision on a regular basis. During the years their passion and talent emerged into one cohesive musical project in which they could play together several times.

In 2007 they decided to experience different musical pathways. In this important term both of them gained success of their own goals as they played in the most important and determining venues in Hungary and abroad as well. Their contribution to the local scene was always remarkable, which was an important part in order to rebuild its strong basis.

Although their sound has continuously evolved during their career, they always remained true to their roots. As a result, they found the year 2012 a perfect timing to reunion and set in a long lasting new venture, where they can apply all of their practical experiences that shaped them.

Through some productive studio sessions, in 2014 they prepared their new sounding tracks, which have received promising feedbacks from all across the scene. In the same year they released their first EP, called ‘Boundless’ on Driving Forces Recordings.

In their DJ sets they are aiming extraordinary performance with 4 CDJs, 2 mixers and loads of external gadgets in order to provide their unique dynamics and powerful sounding. Their style was influenced by techno from the beginnings. They keep up with the newest changes but at the meantime their music retains their original style. As the result of professional precision, strict selection and sorting, and vigorous dynamics there is a unique sound of their mixes.

Biography

I was 4 years old - 1994 - when it started with electronic music.
My brother had old tapes and CDs with initial electronic techno music. I rummaged through them, put one cassette after another into the player. I was curious to hear what awaits me.
So I was always happy when my brother left the house. Because I had time to secretly listen to his discs.
So I started to get interested in techno and it became pure passion.
In 2005 the time had finally come. The city went completely unplanned. It was just supposed to be a birthday for a friend. We were looking for a normal sound system. Until the seller advised us: here, buy a DJ mixer. It is cheaper than your desired system. So one by one followed. I start mixing it track by track.
When I was just 17 years old, I started playing in the clubs and began to develop my technoid sound.

I was one of the youngest resident DJs at the time in Dortmund.
The clubs I played in have a very long and successful history in the electronic scene.
At that time it was called the “Port of the Artists”. Above all, many top DJs worldwide inspired exactly these clubs.
From then on the little journey continued, which in 2008 attracted me to the Dortmund clubs and further appearances in North Rhine-Westphalia (Rheingold/Düsseldorf). This also included the “Orange Club” (Rheingold, Düsseldorf / Minimal is Criminal or Goldrausch).
It is precisely this variety of performances, different clubs and groups of people that have made me and my style of music what they are today.

“My signature playing trait is to let the sound roll as it is. Without weird changes, without effects – that’s important to me. That’s what makes techno unique and gives the music the chance to be what it is.”
