STEBASS around 2001 he gets in contact with reggae music and its vibration while at college, listening to Bob Marley's classic tunes and being touched deeply by the sound of the bass guitar. Soon after, in the spring of 2002 he starts opening his ears up to other foundation reggae artists, such as Gregory Isaacs, Steel Pulse, Black Uhuru, Jimmy Cliff, Lucky Dube and Alpha Blondy; autumn comes and Stefano is employed as metal-worker in a factory…his first salary is used to the purchase a bass guitar. From that moment on, his relationship with the instrument is indissoluble: after a few lessons he learns 'Stir it up' and intimately realises that playing reggae music will be a part of himself forever on. In the first weeks of 2003 Stefano joins forces with a few friends to form a group called Roots Bamboo, where he meets a talented and inspirational trombonist called Zilvy, who will be his musical companion in future ventures too. In this period of his life, Stefano gets more and more hungry for live reggae music, travelling across Italy to see performances from the best national and international acts such as The Abyssinians, Gregory Isaacs, Steel Pulse, Jimmy Cliff, Lucky Dube, Alpha Blondy, Toots & The Maytals, Twinkle Brother, Steel Pulse, Groundation, Israel Vibration and The Wailers; seeing Aston Barrett performing is like a punch in his stomach, and Stefano feels the need to commit more and more to music, taking part in as many projects as possible and moving freely from blues to funky, up to new wave. After a few live gigs with Roots Bamboo his love for the bass becomes even stronger, and in 2005 Stefano decides to leave his daytime job and move to England for some years. While in Brighton he gets to know more of the UK style of reggae, and feels the power and deep spiritual vibes spread by sound systems such as Aba-Shanti-I, Jah Shaka and Channel One. As his knowledge increases, the taste in music is developing quickly…after an attempt at forming a live band, he decides to produce tunes on his own. In May 2007 he starts buying the machines and tools which will be the foundation of Stebass Music Studio, and composes his first stepper riddim, called Step One. At the end of 2007 Stefano is back to Italy for 2 years and continues producing dubs, helped by long-time collaborator Zilvy. The year 2010 marks a return to England(London), where the first release on Stebass music label sees the light on 10" vinyl; the tuff trombone instrumental on the B side is very well received by dub addicts and soundsystems, and gathers regular plays on Jah Shaka Sound. By the end of the year the second release is out in 12” vinyl, featuring the Brixton Mc Brother Culture, followed in 2011 by another single with the legendary jamaican singer Earl Zero. The month of September sees the launch of a CD compilation which gathers all the material which has come out on vinyl plus a few unreleased tracks featuring Chazbo out of Conscious Sounds and others.
