Humboldt, Calif.-based teens Will Nicoll (guitar) and Matt Moss (drums) focused their energy on making music together. The result of that creative exploration is Steel Toed Slippers.” Relix Magazine 

Will Nicoll and Matt Moss, also known as Steel Toed Slippers, draw their roots from the Redwoods of Humboldt County, blending a classic branch of American rock, with a spruce of soul, funk, blues, and jazz--a musical mélange as sturdy and timeless as the Redwoods themselves. Steel Toed Slippers influences range from Little Feat, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, to Pink Floyd, and Tom Waits. The idea of Steel Toed Slippers first seeded in 2006, when then teenagers Nicoll and Moss, were introduced to each other by a school counselor who recognized their innate musical talent. Combining their creative forces proved to be their raison d'être, and inspired with new material, they began to book local shows, and take Humboldt by storm.

A duo at heart, Will Nicoll and Matthew Moss perform in a live setting with a revolving door of players, with their current lineup featuring Kfir Melamed on bass and Chris Norton (Zappa Plays Zappa) on keyboards. In their first two years, the band amassed quite a following playing extensively throughout Humboldt county. By 2007, Steel Toed Slippers had become a well known, and highly respected name among the local Humboldt music scene. Later that year, the band had completed their first West Coast tour with shows from Humboldt all the way to Los Angeles, ending with a sold-out show at The Whiskey A Go Go. It was at this point that Nicoll and Moss realized that L.A. was the place they wanted to be.

Shortly after their move to L.A., Steel Toed Slippers found themselves working among some of their biggest musical influences. They were invited into the home studio of Stephen Perkins - drummer for Jane's Addiction, to record their very first EP. This led to countless road trips up and down the California Coast, including opening slots for artists such as Little Feat, Fishbone, Cyril Neville and his band The Royal Southern Brotherhood, Dumpstaphunk, Ozomatli and many more.

In 2010, producer Roger Cole (Zappa Plays Zappa, The Monkees) took the boys under his wing and showed them a new level of discipline and self-development. Shortly after, Steel Toed Slippers went back to the studio to record a new full-length that would be co-produced by Kenny Gradney (Little Feat) and Grammy award-winner Johnny Lee Schell (Bonnie Raitt). The album featured Kenny Gradney on bass, and Johnny Lee Schell on slide guitar. The album was mixed by Grammy award-winning, legendary producer/engineer, Ed Cherney (Iggy Pop, Eric Clapton). By 2012, the band released had their first full-length, self-titled album. Shortly after their self-titled release, Relix Magazine featured Steel Toed Slippers as “Artist of the Month”, with the magazine including a track from their album in its CD sampler insert.
With gigs from Harmony Festival, The Canyon Club, The Whiskey A Go-Go, The Roxy, The Mint, Sacramento County Fair, and several colleges including UC Santa Barbara, Sonoma State University, Cal State Long Beach, Cal State Dominguez Hills, and San Francisco City College; Steel Toed Slippers are always on the go from town to town, and city to city, with one simple objective: to blow minds. This is a band that is truly rooted in the music scene and still growing, much like the redwoods, that surrounded their youth.
