My Re-Score to "A Hidden Life" (2019 film)
The story centers on Franz Jägerstätter, an Austrian farmer from the small village of St. Radegund, who refuses to swear an oath of allegiance to Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich, despite immense pressure from his community, local authorities, and the church. Aware that his decision will likely lead to his arrest and execution, Franz remains steadfast in his faith and convictions. He is supported by his wife, Fani, who also suffers from the consequences of his decision. After months of imprisonment in Berlin, Franz is eventually tried, found guilty, and executed on August 9, 1943. His wife and daughters survive him.

“Shopping Trip,” created by Barry Wilkinson during the first week of the COVID-19 lockdown in the UK, encapsulates the profound worry and unease of that period. The monochrome animation takes the viewer on a solitary journey, capturing the surreal experience of a simple shopping trip transformed by the pandemic’s shadow.

When I heard this piano piece by Debra Buesking for the first time, it touched me deeply. It then inspired me to accompany her piano with an orchestral arrangement.

This instrumental piece evokes the elegance and depth of a bygone era, where emotions are conveyed not through words, but through the gentle flow of music. With tender piano melodies and a touch of wistful romance, it paints a picture of unspoken love, fleeting glances, and hearts entwined by fate. Stefan Kraft is a composer and producer in the realms of film, ambient, and orchestral music. With a career spanning over four decades, he has cultivated a unique sound that resonates with the cinematic and emotive qualities of his influences—including celebrated composers such as A. Silvestri, T. Newman, J. Goldsmith and J. Newton Howard.

His musical journey began in the vibrant rock scene of the 1980s, where he showcased his talents as a guitarist and keyboardist in various bands until 1997. This foundational experience in rock music not only honed his technical skills but also instilled in him a profound understanding of composition and arrangement, which would later inform his work in film music.

Transitioning from rock to film scores, he has established himself as a pianist and producer, crafting evocative soundscapes that enhance storytelling through music. His dedication to the art of composition was recognized in 2024 when he received the prestigious HOFA College award for excellence in composition and production quality.
