Freeway - Back In The White Nights

Exploring the darker, more atmospheric side of Drum & Bass, Xanadu soon caught the attention of one of the scenes greats, when Ant TC1 chose his track ‘Abstrakt’ as the winner of Outlook Festival’s producer competition in 2012.

Early support for Xanadu's tracks (such as 'Ventricle') came from a number of highly esteemed artists and DJ's including Mefjus, Fourward, June Miller and Kasra, but the ball really started rolling when he met the legendary Dom & Roland.

Dom invited him to release his first record on D&R Productions, the first original solo work (other than Dom's own) to be signed to the imprint. "Through The Oort Clouds" was the debut release, a full length LP which came out in January 2015

Xanadu currently has more music forthcoming on Dom & Roland Productions which we should see later this year.

I haven't played vinyl at my gigs for years, so when I took the booking for Grooves in May this year it was exciting but also a bit scary...

SCAR and Artificial Intelligence have been friends for a very long time but its only now that they have begun to work together in the studio and the results have been massive so far. Letting It Go is a great example of how well the four work, a mixture of soul flourishes and screwface mid range riding over a massive sub bass and 2 step drum roll out. A  great sampler signalling what the album will bring.

Over the past year, Gerra & Stone have become one of the most exciting duos to take the genre’s forefront. Featuring across Ram and Program’s discography, they’re creating their own space, one held firmly by tight production standards and a refreshing musicality, seldom seen in newly emerging talent. 

The single appeals to a diverse group of music listeners. Whether across the subs of London’s haunts, or the headphones of any technical music listener, these next two sonic cuts pedestal not only their understanding of a diverse sound design, but also their ability to conquer it. 

‘Dnt U’ is a riddim which cuts and swerves between cascading breaks and instantly recognisable drum patterns. The junglist influences are given a stockiness by an LFO bassline and distortion, falling between amen and quaking sub. It shows a clear persona etched out by the two producers, one which has made them instantly recognisable from the outset. 

The next up, ‘Chicago’ also brings an old school vibe whilst utilising more contemporary techniques. Flipping beat patterns draw you in, whilst metallic percussion drives you forward at an incredible speed. Switching up, it then drags you down a corridor of fluctuating bass notes and snapping hi-hats. 

Adding a second instalment to an already impressive entree, this next output from the outfit prove their path is about to take another ascent. And with exciting new talent to come from the imprint… Once again, it’s time to get with the Program!

Integral release number 30 switches up the vibe with HLZ’s solo debut EP for the label; three incredible tracks exploring a contemporary tech sound that is as hard-edged as it is deep with a digital only bonus to boot. Introducing the “Rem World EP”.
*“Theia” on the A side features an eerie cinematic intro that drops into a big stomper; its huge, well-oiled yet nasty chainsaw bassline is complemented by effortless vocal cutaways and washing pads morphing in and out of the techier elements. Sharp and heavy hitting, this epic tune comes crashing into full effect on a big system at the dancefloor’s peak and is being exclusively featured in sets from tastemakers Artificial Intelligence and Andy C.
*On the flip an extraterrestrial experiment by the name of “Rem World” instantly captures. Its provocative female robotic spoken word layered over funk-fuelled, crisp drum patterning and cinematic soundscape reeks of attitude; reminiscent of Jonny L’s legendary sound of the mid-late nineties. High levels of punch and edge with ample cool factor intact; the intricate breaks programming on this track is exemplary.
*“Roads” continues to explore the business of neuro funk with big dancefloor sound in mind. Stunning pads wafting in and out of slick and punchy beats, makes this yet another superb production.
*For the digital release only, a bonus track by the name of “Nebulosa” rounds off a truly fantastic EP. Futuristic and driving, the stunning grooves of this tune take you on a subliminal journey rich in inspiration, coming at all angles – from techno music and oldschool funk to the golden era of techstep.

For the eleventh installment in the Blendits Audio series, frequent collaborators ''Mindmapper'' & ''Silvahfonk'' are returning to the Rotterdam based imprint with their strapping ''Absolution EP''.

The A-side effort ''Absolution'' evidently showcases the incidental duo's production skill in which the unyielding beats collide nicely with the live guitar licks and mechanical sound effects that occur throughout.

On the B side, the almost herculean sounding drum patterns are continued on ''Raised''. The ominous pads guide the track into a thriving minute of disarray before turning to a doomy fashion with fierce growls and plenty of drum pattern switches. A bonus track called ''Compromised'' is included in the digital release.

The EP is set to be released near the end of November on 12'' vinyl + download card.
